Jake was my friend.....my fondest memories of Jake has to be him working at FOG TOWN SKATE SHOP ON STANYON AND WALLER CIRCA 1985. I was 10 and i would always goto the shop and stay there for hours looking at boards, stickers, thrashers, and watch Jake put peoples boards together and just listen to him clowning people. They wold always be tryin to put some weak shit together and he had to assemble the boards. If he didn't like it he would be like imnot putting this thing together....fuck that shit. He would either end up throwing them out of the shop with nothing orhe would put them up on game. He would be like " you want the SICK shit get the BEAST or the FINAL SOLUTION". these were the shop boards SF SKATEBOARDS. There the BEST and they were. I had a bannana board and i would always hide it in the bush so i wouldn't be laughed at or my biggest fear being thrown out of the shop. One day im in there literally for hours just looking at boards, and Jake was always cool with it till one day he said hey where is you fucking board do you even have one? I said yes and explaied myself...its in the bushes. He said. I dont believe you go get it , so i did .....it was a red bannana board and he was stoked! He asked why do you hide it in the bushes? I said i didnt want to be a kook and he started laughing. He said your not a kook you have a skateboard😂 mind you i was 10. Thene he put it together in his head.....you come here everyday for hours looking at wall to wall boards....lil Chris what do you want? I said I WANT IT ALL! He started laughing hard i was nervous. He said kid in a candy store to a co worker. Then he asked out of all the boards hear wich one do you want? I said im poor....i stole my parents laundry money to buy 2 stickers he was laughing so hard. I thought he was going to throw me out. He asked again wich board if i was to give you one wich one would you pick? I said THE BEAST. He pointed and said your paying attention GOOD.then he says if you beat me at tic tac toe....ill let you have it. Never did, for hours we played and he never gave me one. i knew i had to have this board so i would go to every water fountain i could finde in Golden gate park and steal the change. I was eventually cought. My parents ask why i was stealing and i told them it was to get a skateboard.we were POOR living in the getto. And i knew my parents could never afford it. So i saved up half the money being "bad" and they came up with the other half. On my birthday 1986 i walked into the shop with my parents and there was Jake smiling "well well well.....where have you been?" My mom laughing says to him "grounded for stealing" he laughed. So whats up? My mom said that i had been good and today is his birthday....without hesitation he grabbed the red and silver tri tailed BEAST off the wall and put i togeter with indys 159s and O.J. teamriders. I sleped with that board every night for a month. Since then Jake was like a big brother to me showing me love through skating and i try my hardest to impress him with tricks...... he told me he was impressed with me the first time i walked through those doors grounded and coming out of the shop with the BEAST NO LONGER GROUNDED. LOVE YOU JAKE PHELPS. DUNN

Hectic, watching that really hurts, as an old skateboarder from 85, and understanding our culture, he was a true legend....

We lost a legend in the hard core skate world, RIP bud from Canada. Sad man.
