I would be afraid of the current naughty dog studios touching the franchise, given all the original devs have probably moved on. I'm not sure it would keep the same vision.

Jak II has had some good progress, and they say they plan to start on Jak 3 when they're done with 2. They aren't sure if they'll do X, although it would be nice :)

They already started on Jak 3, it just isn't playable yet. I've been following this project since before anybody knew ab it and Jak 3 looks very promising compared to the early footage I've seen of OpenGOAL, where the dude was working on simply getting stuff to display on screen.

Someone should ask the Opengoal devs for a museum mode to see all of the Jak Daxter character models of every level and bosses you have beaten.

GOW, Spider-Man and Final Fantasy are practically guaranteed down the road and I'm fine waiting. Nintendo doesn't count either bc both the last version of Yuzu and Ryujinx work great. If all you care ab is the games, PC is where it's at now. Can't even think of an Xbox exclusive rn. Unless you're a huge Gears of War fan, but even then you can emulate the first few on Xenia.

Maybe I'm just blanking, but what would you randomize? There's not much in the way of permanent upgrades like a Zelda or Metroidvania game, and pretty much all of the quest items (orbs and cells) are interchangeable. You could randomize enemies, I guess?

@@ZanadorI was about to agree and say idk, but I just rewatched the short and at the very end they say what you can randomize. If you can randomize locations after checkpoints, you can make it so level transitions like the zoomer levels, elevators, the boat to the island etc. all transport you somewhere else instead. And yeah randomized collectible items and monsters too. it wouldn’t be game changing the way Super metroid or ALttP randomizers are, but could breath new life into the game for speedrunners and GDQ and whatnot

As someone who loved Jak and Daxter growing up and now enjoys Halo which has a crap ton of mods...ya'll still playing Jak and Daxter are in for a treat if the mod makers are anything like some of the Halo mod makers.

Theres actually a co-op mod called teamruns that dexz made. Right now its mostly for speedruns but i think he might be working on expanding it with the ability to see your co-op buddy in game, not 100% sure though. There was also a hide and seek mod that zed and barg that was in the works at some point. I think that one is on the back burner right now though

That last mod sounds like its asking for a soft lock? Still sounds fun.

I guess this is an old video but this is the first I've heard about it and I'm hype!!! I loved the Jak and Daxter games and was complaining just the other day that I wish it was available on PC.

I feel like Naughty Dog and Insomniac should collab again and use Ratchet and Clanks new Rift story line to rip a rift into the Jak universe and aid him on his quest! Then we can have a follow up solo Jak game! A whole new reboot!

Hope they do this for sly cooper and ratchet and clank. All 3 were what got me into games. Just got rift apart on steam and i love it. 😂 also just ordered a vita cord cause i have all sly cooper and jak daxter games on it. Bring back the 3 ogs than gaming will be good again

Currently people are only working on jak 2, jak 3 is planned after and X is a maybe. But the people contributing are all working in their free time for free so nothing's set in stone. And the lost frontier wasn't written in the same coding language as the original 4 PS2 games so the work can't carry over and isn't planned for the project.

for now, OpenGOAL's scope is only the Jak trilogy. X is on the cards because it is in the same engine, but Daxter and Lost Frontier are completely different games by different studios in their own style, not utilising Naughty Dog's GOAL language at all

Will they do this for Jak 2, Jak 3, Jak X, and Daxter's spin-off? Why not just make a Jak 4 or make a remake of all the originals. These would be instant momey printers for Naughty Dog.

It's as illegal as any other kind of emulation or modding. Which is to say, technically yes, but unless you're publicly making a lot of money off of it nothing is going to happen to you.

Very cool stuff, love to see community driven efforts like this. But calling it "finally getting new content" and saying the game has been "neglected for years by Sony" is really weird and disingenuous. It's a single-player standalone game for the PS2. There was never any promise or expectation of updates or content additions (partly because that simply was not possible at the time). What the hell were you expecting?

Man it sucks I dont know anything about computer stuff...I love this game

Mods and cracks almost never make it to console, and if they do then they come with a mountain of extra setup and often require modding the console itself.

They need to remake daxter and tlf better too. I know daxter was loved by many but I'm playing it now and the music don't start until like late, the graphics could be a little better, daxter don't run. And tlf, jak looks like some bland guy with a dull outfit and kira is unrecognizable.

Did they make it not as buggy? Or is it still not that good of a game anymore? Taking the rose-tinted glasses off, Naughty Dog made some bad games. I just started replaying this game, and I had to stop after hours upon hours of buggy controls and inputs not working. Not to mention the game mechanics themselves being sub-par. This was not a good franchise.
