Jaishankar, Palki, Hanke Slot, January Mukamba, Jorge Quiroga, Anwar Gargash Debate Multilateralism

Raisina Dialogue 2024 | A Tapestry of Truths: Can the Two Hemispheres Agree? | The South has been castigated for a supposed failure to uphold universal values amid a European war. On the other hand, the South sees hypocrisy and neglect from the West during the pandemic, and in Afghanistan and the Middle East. In a real-time and unmediated world, both sides have enough ammunition to reduce the other to an unprincipled and untrustworthy partner. This polarised reality makes it difficult to respond to challenges that confront us all. The United Nations has been suborned by great powers and is seeking to find new ways to make itself relevant again. Smaller groups and regional clusters have stitched together a kaleidoscope of solutions that are sometimes sub-optimal and sometimes inefficient.
Can trust in the international system be rebuilt, even in the absence of effective multilateral institutions?
Are emerging powers that are more acceptable to a wider array of international actors obliged to stitch together coalitions that work, or is a patchwork of plurilateral agreements a fait accompli?
How can the label “Global South” be made aspirational rather than reductive? Can the West and South collaborate?
Will anyone take responsibility for such an undertaking? Or is such a contested ecosystem good for domestic politics and economic self-reliance for all sides?

former bolivian president sounded quite china centric to some extent but later he ended on a very optimistic note, his two pronged approch to a relationship that is heart and pocket approach seems value neutral in this interest driven world. india to is doing the same, with china heart is down and pocket is open, with maldives, sri lanka, afghanistan we have given more emphases to our mind and heart approach over pocket, with pakistan we have completely used our mind. there are very few countries with whom i feel relations are approached with mind, pocket and heart, UAE comes to my mind, and to some extent USA as well. so the point about EVs, i think here india needs to be fast in terms of production, in delhi i can see around 1000 EV buses running and they are literally nice, less sound, paasenger friendly, pocket friendly and environment friendly. we need this scaling to be replicated almost all metropolitian cities which will boost indian economy.

A civil engineer thinks of fixing the problem. A software engineer treats a solution to problem his brain child and tries to perfect it. A mechanical engineer thinks of process and wear and tear of the past usages.
