Jainism, some called it the world’s most peaceful religion. Its monks are famous worldwide for their strict adherence to non-violence. Going as far as to sweep the floor as they walk to avoid stepping on lifeforms, covering their mouths as to not swallow or breath hot air on living creatures, and following a strict vegetarian diet that not only bans all meat, fish, and eggs but also potatoes!!! So what is Jainism and why is it considered the world’s most peaceful religion.
Their ancient philosophy has garnered the eye of the modern world as their ideas of non-violence, strict vegetarianism, and what could be called an environmentalist outlook are strikingly relevant.
Jains have been highly influential in India for thousands of years. Shaping it's vegetarian-friendly diet and lending the concept of Ahimsa to Gandhi's independence movement.
A Jain is someone who accepts the teachings of the Tirthankaras. 'Jainism' comes from the word “Jina”.
Tirthankaras are the most important people in Jainism. They have removed all their attachments to the world and during their lifetimes they managed to break free from the cycle of rebirth and death that Jains believe keeps souls trapped on Earth.

    The symbol of the Nazi regime should never be called a "swastika". The word is from the Sanskrit "su" meaning "good" and "asti" meaning "being" (so "swasti" basically means well-being"). The Nazis called their symbol a "Hakenkreutz" meaning "hooked-cross" in German.

    Tho I barely knew anything about Jainism but have always thought of it as an extremely beautiful religion. I had a Jain friend in my class and I kid you not she was the most polite girl in the entire class. I remember in our farewell after party she refused to eat anything as she was skeptic In what utensils they cooked food. Like she didn’t want to eat the food made in a utensil which was used to make meat and basically she didn’t eat garlic and onion so. I remember thinking like “this must be hard for her” and admiring all Jains who have it tough but still stick to their faith. Y’all have my respect.

    I've had my non-Jain friends always asking that I'm killing organisms all the time, even while I'm writing this but here's the thing. Until and unless you don't kill something on purpose, it is fine but if you try saving them, that is religion to us. My grandpa designed our house in a way that we don't need to use artificial light till 7 pm, sunlight is enough. This is the kind of dedication we have for the religion and ahimsa.

  • @2bit8bytes

    @2bit8bytes

    4 жыл бұрын

    How does Jainism interpret artificial light(electricity, fire?) as killing organisms and how does it interpret the sun as not? Microscopic organisms die from dry/hot surfaces and encouraging/designing sunlight everywhere can be construed as 'killing organisms', so if that's the case wouldn't artificial light save organisms too? By that same token, with our stomach microbiomes, changing diet significantly can be considered killing the bacteria, or even creating along side it? 8:54 In the video it said the monks/nuns can't cook so they go to other households, but isn't it likely they'll be going to less devout(relatively, by nature of their positions they've chosen) people who wouldn't inspect or be as strict with their preparations? Wouldn't making the food themselves save more organisms overall? (ie family makes B-grade food for 4 and monk makes A-grade food for 1 vs family making B-grade food for 5)

  • @russiakavladmir3531

    @russiakavladmir3531

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@2bit8bytes well it is believed that sun is the only source of energy on this planet, so all organisms can bare it to some extent. Artificial electricity is not completely banished since regular jains use it, things get more strict when you opt to become a sadhvi or maharasaab (nun or monk) As far as cooking is concerned, many of them are on fasts for like weeks, and when they eat, it is usually fruits. Also they travel in groups, since to cook you need to burn which can cause killings, it is the duty of regular jains to provide food to such great people. Also many eat only ripened fruits with MINIMUM seeds and ensure they go back to soil so the cycle of life for the fruit keeps running. A lot more to tell but I hope it helps. We have different kinds of fast like Ekaasan, Byassan, Aimbil, Choviaahar Upvas, Neevi etc. They have abolished everything related to world and are on a trip to inner peace, you might not get food some day, but that is something that shouldn't bother you.

    @match box yes my grandfather did talk about all of'em. I went to IB so I've always had a broader perspective. We celebrate Diwali, Guru Purab, Eid (my friends get veg chocolates for me from their iftaar) 🙂. We believe in multiple theories, however the path we chose is of Jinendra. We have originated in India, diversity is in our blood. Who am I to proselytize anyone's philosophy. Saint? God? Do whatever you want to. Believe in paramatma or Jesus. Jai Jinendra! I come from Hong Kong, China. 🇭🇰🇨🇳 At first, I knew about Jainism on the Internet, then I was really touched by the principle of Ahimsa in Jainism. Jains are strict vegetarians, they even don’t eat root vegetables! Monks and nuns step forward to carry their peacock feather whisks to brush the insects and other tiny beings away. Jains’ compassion extend to ALL living beings in the world, even universe. Where can I find these great people in the world? Unfortunately, in the cultural background of my place raised in, I almost have no chance to encounter this great religion. Most of the people here even haven’t heard of the word ‘Jainism’. I wish I could stay in India for a certain period of time to deeply learn about this great religion one day. Or even becoming a Jain nun. I respectfully bow to all followers of Jainism in the world!!!

    Rushi Integrity Thank you! But there are almost no formal Jain temples in Hong Kong due to my cultural background. The only one in Hong Kong is located in a small industrial flat. And what I mean is that I wish I could become a Jain nun on one day in my life. That day may come after several decades, certainly not in the near future, because I am still a teenager. But I will work hard to learn more about Jainism from now on.

    Very nice video. As a Proud jain I would like to add some more points here : 1. We are a peaceful religion and always try to keep calm . We try to avoid fight as much as possible . However we won't tolerate any injustice. 2.For those who are wondering our rules are very strict , pls try to understand that practically we common jains don't follow many rules. But the jain sadhus sant follow each and every rule. For example I eat my dinner at 8pm. 3. There are some bad people in our sect also .They are everywhere . Sadly Some jains also eat non veg food . 4. For those thinking that pure vegetarian food have very less taste and variety , I feel pitty for u all as you know nothing.Its just heavenly food . 5. We always try to help each other and everyone else. If we become obsessed with our religion we become more nice person lol 6.Although our Population is only near 60 lakhs in India but our contribution is immense. 7. Most of the big businessmen like Oswal Mehtas Etc are jains. 8. JETHALAL 😂is also a jain .😂😂 In (TMKOC )a popular Indian show.😌 9. We respect all religions especially Hinduism a lot , we love hindu mythology And also worship hindu gods. But we are not same religions. We share some common things . 10. Jainism is a way of life. We are proud of our religion , And Country India.🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳😊😊🙏🏻🙏🏻 Jai jinendra to everyone. If any doubts pls ask me. You can upvote if u like so that it can reach maximum people. 😊🙏🏻🇮🇳🇮🇳 jai hind

    You can see thought that degrading women was also common inJainism, remember the Digambaras and Svetambaras conflicting ideas? The Digambaras were the original and more older type of the two. That means that until the Svetambaras were aa thing, women were completely excluded from finding Moksha. IT would be like as if one of the three monotheistic western religions explicitly says that woman cant go to heaven.

    Namaste Gee, The advent of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned more than once in the Hindu scriptures. Hindu scriptures are divided into three basic categories: Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas. There are differences about the age of those scriptures; some people believe that they go back almost 4,000 years. One of the amazing prophecies in these Hindu scriptures is the one on the tongue of Maharshi Vyasa, a Hindu saint, that states that the land of Arabs will be corrupted by the evil doers - maybe a reference to the pre-Islamic pagans; and that Mahamad - a slight adulteration of the name Muhammad - will come and guide those who went astray. He will be circumcised, bearded, eloquent; he will create a great revolution; he will announce the call for prayers; he will eat of the meat of lawful animals but not of the swine; and he will fight against irreligious nations. All these descriptions meet Prophet Muhammad (Vidyarthi). Bhavishya Purana, one of the most important Puranas, includes another prophecy that states that in a foreign country a spiritual teacher whose name is Muhammad will come; he will be a dweller of Arabia; he will gather a large force to fight or kill the devil; and God will protect him from his opponents. Prophet Muhammad Mentioned in the Upanishad Some Hindu scholars consider the Upanishads scripture to be superior to the Vedas, because they impart divine knowledge and teach how the human soul can get nearer to its Maker and Master. The Muslim testimony of faith is mentioned in the Upanishads. The most important prophecy in it is the one that mentions the coming of Prophet Muhammad by name, and the Muslim testimony of faith - there is no God but Allah - is repeated more than once in it. As a result of the clarity and explicitness of that prophecy, some Hindus actually enter into Islam, which has led some Hindu scholars to claim that perhaps this prophecy was written by a Hindu pundit who converted to Islam. But this is refuted because this prophecy was referred to in some of the ancient Hindu books that predate the advent of Islam or Muslims to India (Vidyarthi). In the Allo Upanishad, the following description of God is given: the name of the deity is Allah, He is one, the King of all the world, He is the Magnificent, the Greatest of all, the Best, the Most Perfect , the Holiest of all, the Nourisher of the whole world, the Manifester of the earth and the space, and the Lord of all creation. He created the sun, the moon, the stars, and the heavens. He is the Nourisher of all the birds, beasts, animals that live in the sea and those that are not visible to the eye. He is the remover of all evils and calamities, and Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Prophet Muhammad Mentioned in the Vedas The third basic category of Hindu scriptures is called the Veda. In the Atharva Veda, it is mentioned that the praiseworthy among people shall be praised; it is known that the name Muhammad in Arabic actually means “the praiseworthy.” It also states that the promised prophet will be a camel rider, which is interesting because Indian prophets were forbidden to ride camels. Prophet Jesus, according to the New Testament, rode on an ass but not on a camel, but it is well known that Prophet Muhammad rode a camel. The seventh mantra also speaks about someone who is going to be a guide to all people, and Prophet Muhammad always emphasized that he was not sent to a particular people, like Israelites alone or Arabs alone, but to the whole world. The sixth mantra speaks about some of the brave people who vanquished without a battle and that the number of their opponents was 10,000, which could be a reference to the battle of the allies or the trench that took place during Prophet Muhammad’s time. The number of the people who put a siege around Madinah were indeed 10,000, and they were vanquished without a battle because God sent a hurricane that finally, after a long siege, forced them to leave. In the Rig Veda, it speaks about a person who is described as truthful and trustworthy, powerful and generous who will be famous with 10,000. All these are the characteristics of Prophet Muhammad, and the number 10,000 could be a possible reference to the number of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad who entered Makkah victoriously.

In this context even Einstein had agreed to the point. Namaste Gee, Vedas:Svetashvatara Upanishad chapter 4 verse 19 As well as in: “There is no image of Him” (Svetashvatara Upanishad 4:19) It is mentioned in Yajurved Chapter 32 Verse 3 “There is no image of Him” (Yajurved 32:3) It is also mentioned in Yajurveda Chapter 40 verse 9 “They enter darkness those who worship natural things (for e.g. air, water, fire, etc.). They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti i.e. created things (for e.g. table, chair, car, idol etc.) (Yajurved 40:9) Idol worship, which is very common amongst the Hindus, is prohibited in Hinduism. It is mentioned in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7 verse 20: “Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires they worship demigods i.e. idols.(Bhagavad Gita 7:20) * Hindu Scriptures: "There is only ONE God, not the second; not at all, not at all, not in the least bit."[Brahma Sutra] * Hindu Scriptures: "He is ONE ONLY without a second." [Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1] Hindu Scriptures: " O friends, do not worship ANYBODY but Him, the Divine One. Praise Him ALONE."[Rigveda 8:1:1] Hindu Scriptures: "I am the goal of life, the LORD and support of all, the inner witness, the abode of all. I am the only refuge, the ONE true friend; I am the beginning, the staying, and the end of creation; I am the womb and the eternal seed. I am heat; I give and withhold the rain. I am immortality and I am death; I am what is and what is not"[Bhagavad Gita 9:18-19] Hindu Scriptures: "There is no likeness of Him." [Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:19] * Hindu Scriptures: "His form is not to be seen; no one sees Him with the eye." [Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:20] * Hindu Scriptures: "That which cannot be seen by the eyes, but by which the eyes see, [Kena Upanishad] * Hindu Scriptures: "The Formless Supreme Spirit that pervades the universe can have no material representation, likeness or image." -- (Yajur Veda Hindu Scriptures: "He is bodiless and pure." [Yajurveda 40:8] Scriptures: "Of Him there are neither parents nor lord." [Svetasvatara Upanishad 6:9] Hindu Scriptures: "They are enveloped in darkness, in other words, are steeped in ignorance and sunk in the greatest depths of misery who worship the uncreated, eternal prakrti -- the material cause of the world -- in place of the All-pervading God, but those who worship visible things born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like) in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness, in other words, they are extremely foolish, fall into an awful hell of pain and sorrow, and suffer terribly for a long time" (Yajur Veda)

Is going through external wars, civil wars, because his land of origin has natural resources. Not taken seriously and treated as second/third class citizen when he becomes a refugee. Only then you'd understand the hell that some Arabs are going through because they're stuck between evil, hyper materialistic nations such as Russia, US, China and evil, fanatic organizations such as ISIS, Al-Qaea, and some Shiite Militias. Mahavira just re-taught the teachings of the ancient Ford-Makers and taught his own knowledge too and made the religion heard and seen again after being forgotten because of the hard-to-follow rules.)

    I'm a Jain, and i might not be following each and every rule in our community, but i can share a fact that it's ideology and way of thinking that we as Jains equally believe and follow. Only intent i feel is do be good to all by good deeds..
