"Jail Dogs In 1C" Webisode 1 Meet some incredible Dogs!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Operation Second Chance is helping save Dogs on death row in Georgia. Also getting a second chance are the inmates in 1C at the Gwinnett Detention Center.. The Dogs are paired up with carefully selected inmates who are taught how to train and take care of the Dogs while they wait to be adopted. For more information please visit www.jaildogs.org
You can also become a fan on facebook / 139342539431656
I have met the most amazing Dogs who were minutes away from death. Every jail should have a program like this. Not only does it save Dogs lives it also gives the inmates responsibility and a companion who doesn't judge them and gives them unconditional love. The Dogs now have an agility course to run on and they have the best time!
This project is dedicated to all those wonderful Cats and Dogs who never found their safe forever home.

So important what the one inmate said, that it gives the inmates the experience of being kind. And experiencing unconditional love & no judgement. That's just incredible. I'm just crying halfway through this. Amazing.

It's called rehabilitation... Something most Americans aren't in favor of-they're all about punishment. Never mind that this person is going to get out, the same-or worse probably... So even if they HATE the idea that convicts get an education in jail or whatever it may be, hello fuckwads, it benefits you that you have people coming out of prison who may become productive citizens rather than getting back to their own ways. But... Americans. They can't take it. That someone would get schooling or education of any sort. Or Republicans, rather. Or mostly. They're the worst. And the stupidest.

This has got to be one of the best methods of rehabilitation methods for inmates. Dogs truly are man's best friend, taking these damaged/ broken (for whatever reason) prisoners, and giving them a new look out in life. Much love to all involved.

It's such a win-win! Both for the inmates and the goggies! Guess, when they're trying to adopt out those dogs, if they knowing how to do those tricks-shaking paw, rolling over,-are going to be a big hit with potential adopters! While being bittersweet for the handler when 'their' dog gets adopted, it must must be so satisfying and give a sense of pride that he's transformed this dog, from an unadoptable case, into a dog that people lovingly welcome into their home.

IF there is no tax money involved and there is an abundance of shelter dogs to train as well as prisoners to train them, why aren't programs like this in more prisons/jails?? Even if they end up not being able to find a "forever home" for the dog after the prisoner trains her/him the prisoner can just keep the dog as a pet. There would be the cost of food and maybe dog toys, but still, compared to a lot of other prison programs that are more expensive and ineffective a program like this would come at a relatively low cost. Doesn't make sense to me. The only reason I can think of why they wouldn't want this program adopted in more correctional facilities is the prison industrial complex.

I did a stint as a volunteer at (the city's) Animal Care & Control in NYC, and boy was the shelter overrun with pitbulls. I swear 50% at least were pitbulls, and I imagine it's probably the same at a lot of shelters. And they're so sweet! And they're dying for attention. But it's just one after another... Why pick this one or that one? And they tend to -really-not walk well on the leash (read: pull). Still, they're wonderful dogs! So if some of them had a chance to come into a program like this? With someone who has the time and patience to train them how to walk on a leash! And do some cute tricks! (People looove that-for a reason! It's qte.) A beautiful thing, and a huge bonus for both parts, inmate and doggie.

This is a wonderful programme - a win-win situation. The Dog's are re-habilitated and shown love and affection - the inmates are given a big responsibility in caring for and training the Dog's and they in return are shown un-conditional love. When we feel sad or upset and in need of comfort there is nothing more honest than your Dog knowing how you feel and will be there for you to be hugged. Man's best friend will always be there for you no matter what you've done.

These programs, and there are many: which pair up a prisoner, with a dog, and let them bond, and the inmate learns to prepare this dog for a future life. It is touching: saves the dogs, and also changes the lives of these 'lost' men, I think in many cases, forever..

Thank you Amy J. There is also a HUGE need for some of these dogs with specific gifts to be put to an even higher calling. Dogs with therapy dog potential could be trained up as therapy dogs (for people with mental illness, life threatening medical conditions (alert dogs), PTSD, autism dogs, and dogs to stay with those who have dementia, or are dying alone in nursing homes, and of course permanent prison dogs on every ward (privileges). It is also of paramount importance and urgency that these dogs stories are presented carefully in age appropriate ways to young children to develop children’s empathy. (Ethics classes do this to some extent in Australian government schools) .Education ! education! education! at home and at school. Perhaps broadcast on kids TV, playschool, kids film festivals, public announcement TV and on computers (instead of an add or two!) so that the children of the future will be aware of vet care; de sexing animals; not buying from Pet shops who are fronts for puppy cat mills www.oscarslaw.org/ • Abolish the factory farming of companion animals. • Ban the sale of companion animals from pets shops/online trading sites. • Promote adoption through rescue groups/pounds/shelters. Animal rights and animal abuse issues. My suggestions for widespread education and empathy building would mean the tiny tots of today would be far less likely to let the cycle of abuse of any animals (including factory farming) happen in the future. Kind Regards, Sez Cardis

What a wonderful program. I saw this first on 'Pitbulls & Parolees'; I'm glad to see that its... somewhat widespread? A little bit? Because it's such a positive thing. When these guys get out they can become dog walkers ( a pretty good business!), which probably wouldn't even have occurred to them otherwise! And if not, they're coming out with a much more positive mindset-mostly because of having spent time with the dogs and learning how to train them, but also because they were given a chance by society. Compared to the attitude in the rest of the western world where rehabilitation is a big part of an inmates prison sentence , Americans seem to be *all* about punishment. Why should prisoners get 'free' education!? well, you just punish them, keep them in storage for a certain amount of time, what do you theink they'll be when you release them? More doggie programs for everyone. :)

Don't you think that unconditional love an animal gives would also help those individuals? Ofcours non violent crimes against animals. I think cats would do great too in this kind of environment. I'm a big animal lover and I've also had a son in jail.

I can just applause for this other program, we can see in the 2 cases that it saves dogs but , it is very important, it help prisonners to have a different look of their futur, it gives to them a possibility to make good thinks after they will go out their prison... it is so beautifull really I really think that these programs would have to be in every countries... in first in my own country, France, but unfornutly i think that it wan't be impossible...
