Jaguar XK8 project #38, the dreaded 'restricted performance' fault, rough running issues, fixed!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

so the XK8 has developed an intermittent rough running and misfire issue. it's been happening during every journey for the last couple of weeks, throwing up a restricted performance fault.
I have been through the diagnostics and believe it to be a misfire on cylinder No3, so this a video about how I go about fixing the issue.

I had this problem on my Jaguar. The garage charged me 800 usd to change the coils. I bought them for 144 dollars a s8 on EBAY and it took me 1 hour to replace them. I was also charged 600 dollars to change the water pump. I bought it on the internet for 33 dollars. I changed it in an hour. Do it yourself!!!

We had restricted performance come up on our XKR that turned out to be a dud coil pack on number 3. We replaced just the number 3 coil pack & all was well until a couple of weeks later when the restricted performance came back. No mucking about this time; we replaced all the coil packs & plugs as they were all the same age as the number 3 coil pack & we anticipated they would all start playing up in due course. No further problems since doing the coil packs & plugs.

That's great that you found the cause of your issue, and a great shout to replace all the coil packs and plugs. We love little wins that are so effective 😍

Here's an idea for you and all the diy guys out there, find a cup cake baking pan with 6-12 slots, use that to keep the nuts and bolts in, it will help everything tidy and not rolling everywhere, also to organize/group them together, it will make it easier for you.

Hi John, I really appreciate you getting in touch buddy. What a great idea, I have never thought about using something like that. I have since bought some magnetic trays, but I love that idea as it gives you separate compartments to store it in 👍 Thanks again for your input buddy 👌

@@projectsinthebarn I find it very helpful if you have to change out a starter in a Toyota sequoia, many steps at different levels before you get down in there, so the tray helps organize where things go along the way.

I picked mine up from the South Coast to Solihull and within a few miles the same thing happened. That said it was reaching speed limit (ho hum), but wouldn't go over 3000 revs. Mine was No7 cylinder. I bought a couple more as spares as I think mine were the original ones as well. Touchbwood, no problems since. In got side swipped parked outside my Dad's a couple of weeks ago and they took the wing mirror off. That was a nice little bill!!!

Hi buddy, firstly, gutted for your jag getting hit whilst it was parked up, hope its been fixed up OK? I have just come back from its test run and its all good, runs sweet as a nut, so fingers crossed we have sorted the problem. I do think the battery may be on its way out also, I had it in charge for an age and its still not at full capacity. At least that gives me something else to do on it 👍

I bought last year 2 jaguar XJR V8 year 2000 and 2003 van den place. The first one had 58,000 miles, some corrosion. I did the bodywork myself. I'm sure they would have charged me a minimum of 2500 dollars just to change the metal. I paid 2000 us for the paint but I should have done it myself. I lifted the carpet, I cut the rotten tiles. I bought a $250 soldering set and some homedepot blocks. I worked on the car for a month, 2 hours a day. You can't see anything now. And I'm not a pro. I'm gradually redoing what has to be done. I changed the shocks and brake calipers myself. The car of the year 2000 is almost finished. For the 2003 car, I'm changing the engine and transmission, at a cost of $2500 for the 2 parts and $1300 for labor. The car was bought in Florida for $1,200, with not a square centimetre of rust. The bodywork is impeccable. I need to revise the interior because a pig drove it before me. This moron used to throw cigarette butts on the floor. I used naphthalene balls to get rid of the smell. In a month, it should be ready. In France, I've had 5 Jaguars, including 2 V12s and 2 Xjs, and they were much better than the Mercedes. Americans don't know about these wonderful cars! I drove the Jaguar V12 in France at 250 kms/h on the freeway.

Hi again, you sound like a real jaguar enthusiast, which is great to hear. Well done for getting one of the XJR's all fixed so far, and keep the enthusiasm going for the second one. There is so much pleasure to be gained by doing it all yourself, I tip my cap to you sir 🙂

The ignition coil was burned by a short circuit. A little tip from me: please use a brass brush for cleaning. The spark plugs. And carefully clean the air mass meter sensor mit cotton swab.before installation.😅
