Jaguar i-Pace - The proper way to make an electric car - Beards n Cars

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The title of this video is a bold statement, so why do I say that the Jaguar i Pace is the right way to market or make an EV? Well simply put, because Jaguar's approach shows clear signs of making this a good car first, and then an electric car second.
Too many EV's these days come off as pure gimmicks, riding the bandwagon of electric power. The i-Pace was ahead of the curve though, offering a truly practical and stylish electric platform, but also combining it with the strong performance and outstanding road manners which you would want from a 'proper' Jag...

Still one of my favourite examples of how to make an EV the right way: Don't make an electric car. Make a good car, which happens to be electric.

I've owned mine for just shy of a year,it's an absolutely beautiful, amazing car.I've had hot hatches and superbikes all my life, this car just eats up corners with ease it's like riding on a magic carpet. Thanks for a great honest review.

I bought a second hand I-Pace SE 2,5 years ago, best car ever ! Handling and performance are mindblowing, it’s a nice to drive fast as to cruise peacefully, it’s also very practical. 380 km real range is more than enough for us and relatively slow speedcharging is not an issue in real world.

Nice one, yeah they definitely seem to be one of the best put together all round EV's, at least with the limitations of current tech

Sodium based batteries are coming next year, going to be a game changer for EV's/Range etc. ICE cars just won't be able to compete.

Just to put the weight into perspective, the I-Pace is about the same size as my diesel BMW X5 and guess what, weighs almost exactly the same. Generally an EV does tend to be slightly heavier than a similar sized ICE powered car, but every reviewer just has to mention it and so the general public think EVs weigh twice as much and that is simply not true. I also have ICE powered motorcycles that weigh more than any electric motorcycle currently available. We need to keep things in perspective.

The 22 inch wheels reduce the range by close to 30 miles from 246 to 217. Not worth it for $76k usd

Performance-wise EVs most definitely trump anything else. However, when it comes to the environment they are way more harmful than IC engines. Sure, they don't have emissions. But where does the power come from? Electric plants right? How "green" are those? And what's the battery manufacturing process? Not the best for the environment isn't it? And the worst of all - where does the battery go after it gets replaced? Yeah, that's right... It's not all that green, all things considered isn't it?

Google works for me, all those questions are easily answered with even the most basic research. The answer is that over the vehicle lifetime the EV is cleaner. That's about all you need to know if you're not willing to look beyond the outdated messaging.

I mean, those are problems yes but the real questions are can they be fixed over time and which energy form is more likely to have its problems fixed. You can generate green electricity from solar panels and wind farms, greenish from nuclear. If you want green petrol you're talking about efuel which is not currently produced in volume and is immensely wasteful, like 20% efficient end to end (hydrolysis, ICE efficiency are low). To mitigate that we'd need plentiful green electricity though if you have that clean electricity anyway why not put it in an EV that's maybe 80% efficient end to end? Battery manufacturing does currently suck but as the energy input gets greener and we come up with new chemistries that use nicer materials (LFP has no cobalt or manganese for instance) that can be improved. Battery end of life? Well you've got a box full of valuable materials so reuse then recycling makes sense, it just needs scaling up. We did it for lead acid batteries which used to go to landfills. A lot of anti-ev points don't stack up if you look closely and think. Hydrogen is similar, a friend saw a headline about a new green hydrogen delivery network but we dug into the press releases and it was only planned for 2040 and had 1kg of green hydrogen so far. The company behind it wanted investment and were happy to exaggerate to get it.

I agree with @djtaylontube on this; Google your answers, and you'll find out that your response needs to be updated. As most countries in the EU and the UK are heading towards net zero energy production by 2050, around 45% of most countries are renewable alreadyt, and the rest is gas or nuclear. In battery manufacturing, you are seeing new chemistries coming out all the time compared to a few years ago. How much cobalt does petrol or diesel use? Could you look it up? Unlike them, cobalt in batteries can be recycled. Regarding the battery's life, it will outlive the car and be used in another place, battery storage, for example. When it does come to the end of its life, the technology is now available to recycle. Current recycling facilities can recover nearly all of the cobalt, nickel, and over 80% of the lithium from used batteries and manufacturing scrap left over from battery production. Recyclers plan to resell those metals for a nearly competitive price with mined materials. Aluminium, copper, and graphite are often recovered as well. So your arguments are ancient and just fud, and you know this already, so why are you spreading this crap.?
