I'm going to try to standarize my range testing more with the route Oslo-Kristiansand-Oslo. Something I'm calling the Norwegian High Speed Run, because it is the longest stretch of road over a larger distance with high speed limits. The stretch is 615km and averages over 100KPH. Today I'm doing the first test in the Jaguar I-Pace EV320.

    If you plan your departure time in the app (and the car is at 100% SOC) the battery will preheat to around 20C. The battery wil also start active heating when DC charging in cold weather, so charging speed will pick ut after a while

    The windscreen wipers use a fairly noticeable amount of the electricity

    Nice car but a bit thirsty. Seems to have a good firmware that powers down as much as possible to put priority on range. And the KEPPOWER charger are amazing. Nice and small with important kW on display and even a charging graph ! Having one big DC power that distributes DC to all the chargers gives an advantage, when the car throttles then power if freed up to be used on other chargers that is in use.

    Great ad for buying an EV. Thanks for the video Kris! Does the I pace have a heat pump? It's a beautiful design but the price and performance isn't really there is it? I wonder how it compares to a Audi Sportback E tron price and range.

    Pricing -wise the EV320 I-Pace has roughly 1/5th of the price of the EV400 shaved off and a 0-100 time of 6.5s as opposed to 4.5s in the EV400. Supposedly the battery will preheat IF the navigation is set for a charger or if you use the app to tell it when you are setting off, in order to maximise charging speed, but that wasn’t demonstrated here. E-tron has very similar price and range although from tests I have seen, the E-tron is less efficient by the slimmest margin. It charges faster though to make up for this.

    These kempower chargers are awesome. By scanning the qr code from the charger screen the status can be seen from the phone 🙂

    14:35 I can't understand why you say you were shaking from fear of running out of charge !? What could happen apart from complete stop ? What's scary about it ?

    I have been driving an IPace since 2 years, and I have never saw an average 29kwh/100km at an average 100km/h, even in winter here in Canada. With a cabin air set at 20c, you should have around 24kwh/100km. Maybe because of head wind ? What kind of winter tire do you have ? 22" ?

    Headwind on the south west trip, and tail wind back. That's why I do the A-B-A testing to eliminate variables like wind direction and elevation. The tires were 255/50-20, Continental Viking Contact.

    @@Bigbombie After test driving both the iPace and the E Tron, I decided to order a BMW i4. I’ve now owned it for six months and love the car!

    Hello Kris, great video as always. To be honest electric cars are causing more anxiety and you have to count sooo many factors (planning route ahead, charging stations-big waste of time while waiting to charge, weather conditions, wind directions, road uphill/downhill) it is just too much. I think the best solution is still the hybrid cars, maybe what would be ideal is a hybrid car with larger batteries giving you a range of about 100 km or more and smaller gas tank, that would be great for city driving and highway driving. Less anxiety.

    You have to remember that the point of these range tests are to cover the trip as quickly as possible, and sometimes it makes good and dramatic content. But in the real world, I would have topped up five more minutes to be safe. And there are many charges on the way I could stop at. There is also important data gathered in this video like the consumption in cold, rainy and windy weather which will give you a nice baseline for planning your trips.

    Once you drive an EV for a while, you do a couple trips, it becomes very natural and you dont even think about all issues you mentioned.

    Then you'd guess wrong, most EVs in this test do not react like this. Watch the latest test of the iPace on the Norwegian High Speed Run

    @@KrisRifa You need a app calls Bilkraft. And you can put in RFID card in there and charge as normal. I will make a video how do do it. Even how to do it with a PC later.

    That's called real world range anxiety - maybe you show a real world comparison with the Jag and Etron? I guess you planned that already for sure..

    I'm going to make this route my standard range and efficency testing route, next week you'll see how the E-Tron S fares. And maybe I'll do the same test with my E-Tron before Christmas if I have time :)

    @@bavariancarenthusiast2722 Main differences were charging speed, space, MMI system and known build quality. I've had several Audi's during the last 30 years. All without any problems. But I do like the Jag! 🙂

    Jagur, apart from having sportier ride, looks like has more or less nothing better then EQC. In 6 months, I will be in the market for EV SUV and planning to go for either of these two. E-tron is a bit expensive imo.

    Honestly I love the Jaguar iPace, but would rather buy an eTron. It seems to be a better EV for charging, ride quality and comfort. Yeah the eTron may be as thirsty as the iPace, but I think the eTron is just a better choice. Thanks for the video.
