Arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever, you can't go wrong with a Jaguar E-Type. It's a cryin' shame the newer Jaguars now have no manual gearboxes. They seem to think everyone wants an automatic.

See how uncomfortable the owner looks at 1:29? It's because the host thought it was a good idea to use the car as a chair.

I've had 3. A 61 OBL, a 66, a 67 now in warehouse, all ots cars. Drove the heck out of them, no problems. Series one cars are simple, simple, simple. Only made 386 OBL cars, worth a fortune. With a 308 rear end you could do 150. I got past 145 one time on I-95 near Daytona Beach, still had pedal left. Kinda scary.!!!!!

Our neighbors had one of these as well as a XJ6. My parents had a 280 SL Pagoda and a 280 sedan. I always thought the Jaguars were much more beautiful than my parents rather dowdy cars. Then I remember how the neighbors children rode to school more often with use rather than in their parents own cars. They were always in the shop for something. Years after the Jaguars where gone , replaced by a Cadillac Eldorado and a Buick station wagon, you could still see the oil stains on the driveway where that had been parked.

I've always had an unpopular taste for classic cars, preferring the offbeat models that had their own style - some of my favorites : later model Corvairs, Porsche 928 and 914, Triumph Stag and TR8, 1st gen Audi 4000 Quattro Sedan, Scirocco, Vanagons and the Series III Jaguar V12s - I like the elongated V12 E Type Roadster's body style - very menacing and scary

My favorite E Type is the 1970 4.2, manual 4, 3 carbs. wire wheels with the 3:36:1 differential. Roadster of coarse. No coupes. Oh yes, no power steering brakes but 4 wheels discs. But must have heat/defrost.

His comment about a much bigger and heavier engine is pretty misleading, and typical. The V12 is an all aluminum engine, and on an apples to apples comparison to the 4.2, the 5.3 V12 fully dressed engine is only ~ 80 lb heavier, but with more power and more torque.

How can a supposed "expert" of the e-type possibly say William Lyons designed the car. While he did still run the company at the time and deserves full marks for allowing it's go-ahead, he had virtually nothing to do with designing the car. It was primarily designed by Malcolm Sayer.

The engines are "unburstable" but they must be "well maintained" with frequent head gasket replacements or something. When the head gaskets "burst". But if you don't start them or drive the car the engine will definitely last forever.

It is heart braking how these marvels of engineering and design are ending up in glass bubbles because they are being bought by "investors" and not enthusiasts. We let our sons learn to drive on the BMW Z3 Cabrio and the Carrera 4S Cabrio. If I had owned an E type they would have learned on it. These cars should be driven, hard and often, and enjoyed as wonderful vehicles, not as "jewels to be admired and stroked". Shame

Despite the E-type's enduring popularity, I could never get behind it. The design of it, despite what that egomaniac Ferrari might have said, does nothing for me. That said, I can usually find something positive about any old car, and that is much the case here. I'll just appreciate its existence as a monument to a bygone time.

An reliable buyers guide should say, never purchase a Jaguar E-Type 6 or 12 cylinder. They are nice looking, but one of the biggest pieces of junk in automotive history. If you are stupid enough to buy one, have a rollback following you everywhere you go. Take it from someone that knows.

Says the voice of ignorance. I've owned a V12 E-Type for 30 years and it's been a fantastic car -- a beautiful trade off b/t a sports and GT car -- maintain them and they're reliable and relatively trouble free compared to similar period cars.

Yes they are nice looking, probably one of the sexiest cars out there. I'm not convinced your "someone that knows", a well dialed in type 3 V12, well maintained is very reliable, I would take my almost 50 year old type 3 anywhere.
