Today is Mirza Ghalib's birthday. And what better way to celebrate him, than to hear him in Jagjit Singh's magical voice.

I read Ghaalib since I was 14 but never understood him the way I understand him after listening him sung by Jagjit Singh. In my opinion together with Gulzar, Jagjit Singh gave a new birth to Ghaalib. Thank you Jagjit Singh for your service to people of love Urdu.

जगजीत साहब ने हिन्दी उर्दू की चुनिंदा शायरों की रचनाओं को अपनी मखमली आवाज़ में गाकर और संगीतबध्द करके सदियों के लिये अजर अमर कर दिया ! जो रचनाऐ (गज़ल नज़्म) शायद किताबों में ही दफन रह जाती उसे घर घर और कानों तक पहुचाया है उनकी आवाज की जादू का खुमार कभी नहीं उतर सकता !

The absolutely amazing Jagjit Singh. Maybe others can sing better than him but no one has the voice the emotion and the quality that only he had. Bohot jaldi chala gaya! His place can never be filled.

Liten many voices, no body is better than him.

I am so blessed that I got to meet him so many times at my brother’s place but never took any photos with him. I called him my guru as I learnt so much from him. He was a great friend of friends.

Mirza galib and jagjeet. Singh are the ultimate in there character. galib wrote the poetry . the shirt, and many singers. Sung the gazal, but in real sence jagjeet Singh sung Galibs, poetry, in pure form of classical music. jagjeet Singh brought all the meaning of written by galib. Hence both galib and jagjeet Singh are immortal. they left this world in muflisi. Of sadness. But it has can never be forgotten by the literature and music.

The ultimate collection is the best rendition of late jagjeet Singh along with madam chitra Singh. Both have proven singers of there time. Jagjeet Singh selected kalams of all leading poets in Hindi and Urdu shairy. Composted it inclasical forming simple way with less instruments, like harmonium, violin, guitar. Fluit, sitar , synthesizer, Durango, tabla, dholak, and many other instrument. Seriously singing, with classical rendition is the quality in every Gazal or nagma sung, Rendition of Galibs,gazals and kalams,letters along with gulzar saheb is marvellous, many singer in the world have sung galib in there way of singing. But no body could do this type of work done as late jagjeet Singh and Janab guljar Sahab has done. Both were well worded in Urdu language andd it's literature. Work of music done by there colleague ion stage every where in the world I s the combination of vocal and instrument in such a way that it touches ever heart and sole. May god rest jagjeet Singh in deepest peace.

Thanks Rajabhai for uploading this. I had it in 1991 in audio cassette form which was destroyed before I could copy. Now I am sure that after my death, my soul will go to Parlok. Without listening these I would become GHost and would keep scaring other singers.

jagjeet stands apart in his class many other singers have sung ghalib but the way of jagjeet sir is best and remains uniqe among all Indian and pakistani singers...waseem barelavi sais absolutely correct that had galib heard singing jagjeet sir galib's kalaam galib would have come in the world again..I sisten only jagjeet sir since1989 ...I attended three concerts and i am the eye witness of the magic of Maestro and God of ghazal...none other but jagjeet sir

ग़ालिब की ग़ज़लों को जगजीतजी ने सिर्फ अपनी आवाज ही नही दिए है बल्कि अपनी आवाज की शक्ल में ग़ालिब को फिर एकबार ज़िंदा करदिये। आज शायद ग़ालिब होते तो अपनी ग़ज़लों को जगजीतजी की आवाज में सुनकर यही कहते, हमने माना कि हम ग़ालिब है मगर जो तुमने छुली मेरी ग़ज़लों को अपने लबो से मेरी जान मेरी ग़ज़लों में आगई।
