    You know one of those songs that you used to listen to on repeat and then kind of stopped, and then over a year later you listen to it again and you feel really nostalgic? This is one of those songs.

    so I get the video now and the shoes actually have a lot to do with the meaning. hes obviously rapping about a girl who he can't get over. the setting is 1867 but he is wearing futuristic sneakers which suggest he is stuck in the past. him not getting over his ex is being stuck in the past. its almost paradoxical because what you see is not real but really how he feels more than anything. it's very abstract in a way that it encourages you to think outside the box. you have to make sense of what he gives you and the only thing anything close to literal in this video is his lyrics

    Yeah Take me to the truth Take me home with you Change my taste in music I'm fallen, make me rise with you (She likes me) I'm surprised you do Look, your love's like a river, bae I've seen better days, yeah And my soul, you penetrate, I need your energy Vibrations make me levitate, sipping Hennessy Reading bell hooks, she just sayin' I'm surprised you do (baby) I won't lie to you (I love you) I'm your guy who's new Hide me from the blue I'm dying on the moon And I just needed you Baby, you are so unusual like cutting cuticles But that is just what makes you beautiful Like watching tulips grow When you walk, it's just slow motion baby Why you moving slow? And when you talk, I got my lasers on you like a UFO Girl your eyes are like the open sea, the simple poetry This whole generation, OMG, I see its soul, it's older We should build a city overseas, this country kinda cold I mean they feed the children dopamine And leave them on the sofa I mean, ah, I need someone to renounce with, whoa Ice bucket challenge in the fountain, whoa Chance of finding you, one in a hundred thousand, whoa woah I just wanna kiss you on the mountain, whoa Spend some time with you I might bend the rules 'Cause I'm in love with you You can see the truth I will show you soon Just meet me on the moon She said: Love is a strong word Said: Love is a strong word Well I'ma sing it for you baby, I'll be your song bird If you don't have no loving How we supposed to move on, word? Heard a brother just got shot Because he stopped on the wrong curb If love is a strong word, love is a strong word Then we'll need lots of loving if we wanna move on, word And I'ma sing it to you, baby, I'll be your song bird But I'ma keep it honest with you I won't lie to you My pride dies with you Girl, I love you too I will see you soon Your homework is due

    For those who are confused about some of the imagery in this music video, or those that want to listen, I'd like to provide my perspective on it. That is, if it's alright with you. These images are very interesting so I'd like to share with some of you what's on my mind. Now; this may be long, so if you don't feel like reading a lot, I recommend you do not read this comment. Getting right into it, there are many things you'll recognize as the video goes through it's transitions bare with me and I'll try to address everything; There is a story being told here, and we can see that through the linear nature of the video. It has a clear beginning, middle and end. Which means there is recognition of transition from one plane of existence into the next. Which would also denote recognition in some level of time, some awareness of moment to moment. Jaden in the beginning of the video is still, calm, and unmoving. It's not until the music starts, or the frequency begins, that we see his struggle for life. We see his pain and it is even expressed through his dance movements. Pain on this plane can only persist when a person denies the truth and in doing so clings to a false reality. (i.e. Jaden repeats "Take me to the truth.") The reality we're in, or at least as we know it now, is always painful, but that pain exists to teach you a lesson which will move you from this reality to the next. Time is an important factor here and I'll explain it in the other bullets. The scenes (with the exception of one) have a transition from daytime to nighttime. Entering and leaving. Jaden entered this reality when the frequency hit (when the music started) and the entire time the music was playing he clung to this existence. He left this reality at the end when he died, and we can see him preparing for his departure when he put on his jacket. In fact, you'll notice when he begins his verses is when he does the most clinging. He jumps up from the ground, struggling against the inevitable death scene and begins his dances, fights for his life. He vomits, which is a struggle in and of itself. A struggle to belong where you don't. Vomiting is rejection, and this process is also a story of rejection. He fights the silence of nothing and becomes active, rather than passive. This is when he is grasping for this reality that we know now. When the singing comes through, the frequency of the music changes, and he starts to "die" in the music video. The singing message generally speaks of leaving or transitioning out, while the rap verses generally speak of staying with this "love" feeling. So we can see that there is a level of conflict here. In fact throughout the whole song the conflict is apparent. The scenes take place in the past, yet he is wearing futuristic clothing, he says she loves him in the beginning and then that she doesn't at the end. (She likes me... I'm surprised you do. Versus the ending, You say love is a strong word, if love is a strong word, then I'ma sing it for you baby, I'll be your song bird.) In the verses it would seem that he's suffering through this conflict in the name of what we know as "love" (seemingly unrequited), but what he knew as love was not true love. Love has no true opposite. The "love" that we know on this plane of existence is simply the addiction feeling from the ego, that someone or something can give us (or in this case give our ego) that will distract us from the pain of this reality. This is why we pursue it in the first place, to reach that peace of the next level consciousness, to escape conflict and that is important. When we first fall in "love" with another person, the feeling is unbelievably distracting from the torture and suffering of the world, but like all addictions, the high begins to wear off and the destructive natures of our ego (the thinking mind, the entity we confuse as ourselves) begin to reflect upon one another. We begin feeding a negative cycle which, as long as the ego (desire) is involved, can only end in demise (end of the relationship) at worse case or in greater suffering (a suffering greater than when you were alone) at the least. The wounded Jaden traveling through the video represents our ego, because the ego is suffering. The ego is the part of ourselves that is manufactured over time. The part of us that lives in the past and then reflects upon the future. (Jaden exists in the past but reflects the future with his clothing.) The ego does not exist in the NOW. It can only exist because of time and time is false. The only thing we have is now. Past and future exist only in the human mind. The ego Jaden represents is struggling to live, because the ego knows only struggle, it needs conflict to continue life. That's why when the verses start, and he begins speaking about the conflict of the "love" feeling, Jaden is the most active. Digging a little more into the ego, it tells you who you are and what to expect based events that no longer exist. It deals mainly in fear. It projects predictions of future moments which may be harmful based on those events. The ego is the lower, animal consciousness in the human nature. It tells us how to protect ourselves, but in doing so, it constructs false fears. Fears which are intensified through the love addiction. In order to transition to another plane of existence however, the ego must die. Since time is a false construct of human consciousness, and ego is a construct of time. Then the ego is a false construct of self. Which means there is another self, a conscious self that exists outside the ego. Here we enter the man in black. Always a step ahead of the ego. Always observing. Always Passive and guiding the ego where to go. When the video began and Jaden was convulsing through the small town. The man in black was observing, as if already there, observing him. When Jaden exited the house, the observer was already there, watching from the outside (on the right side of the screen), when Jaden went to get the coat which was hanging for his exit, the observer was there behind it waiting for him. When Jaden was listening to man on the moon, the observer was setting up the phone for Jaden to pick up. And after that, the observer had already beat him to the cliff and was already looking out into the nothing, before Jaden had arrived there. The man in black marks many things in this video. Transition being one. From one plane to the next. The passive watcher. But on the notion that this is a video of self discovery, he represents the consciousness outside of ego. Once the observer began watching what the ego was doing, how the ego reacted, he began his transition process. Awareness, or light, drives away the darkness. The consciousness has all the answers already, and was guiding Jaden to the way out. The only way to truly live, is to live in the moment because the moment is all you have. The moment is the only thing that is real. The future you stress about may or may not happen. The past is gone, but the moment is always. The moment exists and the consciousness is aware of the moment. You'll notice there is a scene here, where Jaden does not die. He yields or submits onto his knees before nature. You'll also notice in that scene, unlike the other scenes that transition from day to night, in this one it is always day, he's always within the light. In this scene also, he moves the least. He is generally still. Except when he evokes the power of love to get in contact with the other self through the Kid Cudi record. Seen with the waving effect of his hand in the "I love you" hand sign and then on the Kid Cudi record before Jaden picks up the phone... of course this hand sign also has esoteric connotation, but that is for you to explore. This scene is the arrival, enlightenment, to be in light. This is the now. This is the moment, the situation that is always. Nothing changes except that he yields to the power of the universe at the end. He accepts all that is and falls before it. Coming to the end of the video we see in all other scenes, he dies. The ego is no more. ("My pride dies with you.") The love addiction which he thought existed does not pick up and he departs into another reality. You'll notice at the end of the music video when he's standing next to the man in black, that Jaden, after he hangs up, begins to phase out of the reality. There is a lot of emphasis on the moon also. (Meeting him there, dying there.) And honestly I'm not all the way sure what the symbolism is there. If anyone else knows feel free to express it. I'll end this off by saying you will more than likely see what it is you want to see from this song's music video. Just like in all things. You may want to hear this explanation he provides to you, (i.e. "She likes me... I'm surprised you do.", "Meet me on the moon.", "I will show you soon.", "I love you."), as some sort of external experience but I'm thinking this video is more conveying an external expression of an internal process. Although there is an outer process he's describing, I believe it exists on top of the inner one he is conveying. What I'm saying is, when you hear these external references realize that they all exist as a reflection of self. When you have a "love" addiction to someone, the problems which you think they are giving you are actually you reflecting self onto that person. I believe if you are wise and see this for what it is, through that connection you can receive the lessons of the universe and transition to something outside the realm of what you thought was possible. That's what Jaden is doing here, he uses the love addiction as a conduit to transition to the next plane. Without getting too much deeper I'll leave things here. *If you read all of this congratulations! I hope you got something out of it!* lol

    Idk why people hate on this song, like I get it. He's Will Smith's son. "Batman" copied Jumpman. But if his whole album sounded like this.. this is good music. If Weeknd, Childish Gambino or anyone else released this shit.. everyone would lose their minds. I hate that people act like he has no talent. If you HAD the money, would you not just try EVERYTHING that you liked and have fun being young and creative? Like damn.

  • @dezmonasg6708

    @dezmonasg6708

    Well, the point I was trying to make was that in Back to the Future, Marty is seen wearing mags and the most iconic shoes from the films are those mags. Making it easy to link the song with time travel and all that. That's why I pointed out Jayden has them on. If he wears cowboy boots no one would think about time travel or anything like that.
