Jacob's Well, an underwater cave- 50 minutes south of Austin!

🪨Underwater Cave- 50 minutes south of Austin 🫧
Jacob’s Well in @wanderwimberley has been known for it’s natural clear spring fed water that created a super fun swim spot for the summer. Although swimming isn’t allowed anymore, it’s worth taking a short walk and checking out it’s natural beauty without all the crowds.
Jacob’s Well is currently experiencing extremely low water levels. According to the @watershedassociation the top reasons are drought, and most importantly over pumping of ground water. It’s extremely important to be aware of our water intake, respect nature, and advocate for policies that will protect TX waters.
For more information check out organizations such as @texasrunsonwater and @waterfortexas that are working to protect these areas and bring them back to life.

It’s sad, I live here in Wimberley and we are in severe drought and stage four water restrictions. Normally the water is chest high across that plank, the water was only about 6 inches from the top of the concrete. I’ve heard stories that Jacobs well was a artisanal well gushing water that cut into the limestone behind it. That is until the area was developed and the aquifer was drained so much you can barely tell that water is flowing out of the well.

Closed for swimming? Does it belong to someone? They can’t just close something that belongs to everyone

@@csmith6237 Not a thinker are ya? Should we next make it illegal to leave your house because the police might have to risk their lives protecting you on the streets? What a ridiculous sentiment. Life is dangerous, freedom is dangerous. Preserving liberty is more important than preventing risk and death - people in this country used to understand this.
