Jeremy irons is a great actor and he owned this role.
When you are passionately in love with someone, it can take you to a level of craziness
Irons did an incredible job of portraying both the beauty and the horror of this love affair. His greed, stupidity and selfishness, coupled with his consumptive passion for her is amazing. Binoche, while slightly less complex, was brilliant. Absolutely luminous. The death of his son was shattering. The mother was also brilliant, wish we had seen more of her throughout the body of the film.
Jeremy Irons est selon moi, le meilleur acteur actuellement vivant. Tellement de rôles différents, avec toujours une intensité incroyable, tout se joue dans son regard.

Wow, the music, the acting......
This is a beautiful compilation, with beautiful music. I felt sorry for him the entire movie. He was an insecure man, gentle and needy. He was stuck in his life and met someone who showed him part of life that he'd never known. He was still decent; he still wanted to make a clear deck with his wife but she wouldn't let him. He was like a hungry boy hanging on somebody who fed him. I'm still not sure about her, but he loved her 'till the end. Although he said that she was as common as every other women, he still loved her. He was looking for an excuse of what had happened, but he still loved her. It's so sad.

The film "Damage" is one of the greatest tragedies I have seen. People always talk about their beautiful love and their feelings, but their passion killed his son and ruined their lives . In the end it is not life, it is existence.

La passione è tragedia anche ,senza più felicità . Proprio l'attuarla per toccare quella specie di felicità ,crolla tutto con rimpianto ,rimorso e impossibile nostalgia . Manca il pentimento ♧.Da lì ,il protagonista pur senza poter cancellare nulla ,potrebbe tentare di risorgere.

Ну это может и правильный взгляд - но взгляд со стороны! А когда мужчина возраста 50+ встречает такую красивую женщину, на 25 лет моложе,опытную и желающую такой свободной безконтрольной близости - то у него в голове и близко нет того о чём Вы пишите! У него реакция молноиносная и мысль только одна - войти в неё! Тормозов НЕТ !

You can certain feel both lust and love with someone but when a father destroys his son’s life and when a fiancée destroys the life of her betrothed, the word “love” is no where to be found. Nor are they expressing love of the self - it’s the antithesis of self love, let alone love for another. Obsession, addiction, perversion and evil are what the two characters embodied - not love. If you want to examine it with a Freudian lens, a case can be made that both of them were engaged in pathological transference, whereby both were acting out unresolved feelings of neglect and abandonment with a parent. That’s usually the origin of masochism toward the self and sadism toward others.
