    Hi. I can see that I was grafted from my mom and dad, raised by one of my grandmothers, to help my ancestors and descendants to come to Christ. I am the pioneer in my family, working from the beginning of my genealogy. I know that my fruits are the work in the temple on behalf of my family. I am not sad anymore since I understood my mission on earth. I know I am special, I have special Love from my Heavenly Father through my covenant with Him, and I am bringing this love to them. I was called to love God and my neighbor, not to complain to God and my neighbor. I never intended to come to live in USA but here I am. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and bringing the Holy Spirit to my home.

    I was alive when Hugh B. Brown gave that talk, although not a member. But after baptism then serving a mission in Germany in 1972 as a "printer" in the office in Duesseldorf, I would make copies of that talk on cassette tapes for the missionaries who would request them. To make a copy I would play the original on one player and record on a connected cassette player while I would work on coming publications from the mission president and assistants to be printed and distributed to the missionaries. As a consequence, I have heard that talk many many times. Were I more intelligent I would have it memorised. But the principles and his voice are imbedded into the fabric of my soul.

    Reading Jacob 5 this time reminded me of Elder Kearon’s talk a couple of days ago where he talks about how God is relentlessly pursuing us.

    Hank, I really enjoyed the story you shared of the gardener cutting down his tree and later having this experience come back to him after being denied a promotion. I can see how God was in both of those moments. A testament to our Heavenly Father who sees the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning. 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺

    I’d like to give one correction. No one is supposed to “teach” Sunday School anymore. Teachers are supposed to facilitate discussions so the Holy Ghost can do his job of teaching us all things. I’ve been in 3 wards in two different areas of the country since President Nelson gave this counsel and it’s hard seeing none follow that counsel. However, when I visited a small ward in Brooklyn, the spirit was strong as they followed the counsel and a lot of learning occurred for everyone. It was wonderful.

    It seems Zenos was a popular prophet as Paul seems to reference the olive vineyard in Romans 11.

  • @davidrenfroe8985

    @davidrenfroe8985

    Zenos was probably edited out of the scriptures by the time Paul studied them. Zenos gives that clear understanding of the dying and resurrecting God. Obviously the disciples/apostles were not expecting the resurrection. That editing occurred so that the Jews would kill "their God." Paul even makes comment that had they known who Jesus was they might not have crucified him, which would have been a tragedy. But Zenos' words are preserved in the brass plates that we get through the BofM. That all said, the remnants of that allegory were left in the scriptures about which Paul was familiar. Like Isaiah, this allegory was probably preserved because it was so obscure that the implications were not understood by the editors.

    I recently realized Zenos was an ancestor of Lehi. 3 Nephi 10: 16 “Yea, the prophet Zenos did testify of these things, and also Zenock spake concerning these things, because they testified particularly concerning us, who are the remnant of their seed.” So, if the Nephites (and Lamanites) were descendants of Zenos and Zenock, then Zenos and Zenock were ancestors of Lehi.

    It also suggests that Israel has been scattered in more than just little ways as it has seemed that the Nephites were...the scattering js the rule not the exception. And i would go so far as to suggest multiple prophets like Lehi were lead away for this very purpose

    Is there a way of obtaining a copy of Brother Bowen's dissertation 'According to All That You Demanded' (Deut 18:16): The Literary Use of Names and Leitwort as Antimonarchic Polemic in the Deuteronomistic History." It sounds fascinating. I would be more than happy to pay for a copy.

    Also a potential reference to the Deuteronomists corrupting with Josiah and leading to the Isaiah visionsay men like lehi conflicting with the jewish leadership in Jerusalem triggering their movement out

    Looks like the U R L was deleted. On the Interpreter Foundation's website you should be able to search up "“I Have Done According to My Will”: Reading Jacob 5 as a Temple Text." They have a printed version available there as a p d f. Videos of the conference at which it was given are also available.
