@@bobchristopher6928 I’ll answer for David as I love to be the informant , and David hasn’t stepped up. This song was used in the documentary “5B”, a film about a hospital ward voluntarily run by brave doctors and nurses who dared to not be afraid of “Aids” and give care to the patients that people were afraid to even be near, at a time when nobody knew what it was or what caused it or how contagious it might be. Wouldn’t it be great if Jackson even got a nomination? Two other people cowrote this song with Jackson and I don’t mean to deny them any credit , but Jackson’s signature style is written all over this song.

Stargazer - thanks for the response. It truly was a confusing time. I was in my early 30s when this mysterious ailment was at its zenith. Everyone was afraid. Everyone was scared. I haven’t seen 5B, but I will certainly search it out. As for Jackson. He has literally been the soundtrack to my life. When our children were young JB was always on in the house or in the car. Those kids are grown now, but they still love Jackson Browne and they all know all of the words and all of the harmonies to every song he’s ever done. I live in Texas, but I have had the distinct honor and pleasure of meeting and conversing with him. The first time was in Richmond CA. Guess what? Jackson was doing a benefit show for an organization whose mission was to help lift up under privileged young people to try and set them on the right path to a productive life. We shook hands and I leaned into him and told him that I remembered exactly where and when I first heard “Doctor My Eyes”. He looked at me and with what seemed like genuine surprise said, “you’re kidding!” Then the next time was in San Jose CA with JB and Emmylou Harris and Joan Baez. After the benefit concert, they had a meet and greet on the stage. We got the three to autograph a t-shirt. What a precious treasure that shirt is today 10 years on. Anyway, I said all of that to underscore the fact that Jackson has always been the first to step up to use his incredible talent to help out worthy causes. He is a very kind a gentle man. He cares about the earth and the down-trodden. And yes, it would definitely be a tip of the hat to have this poignant and sadly beautiful song recognized by the motion picture society. I’ll close with this snippet from Neil Young, and my fondest wish for Jackson. “Long may you run”, Jackson Browne.

The gentle back-beat sounds like a heart beating. And the soulful sound of the weeping steel guitar, a Jackson Browne signature sound. He wastes no ammo with this lyrics; they always reach to the depths of my emotions, even in those songs that are collaborations. When I was a kid, I would go camping and I always took a palm-sized transistor radio. I could pick up WLS in Chicago throughout the night. I would wait for any, and every Jackson Browne song to play.

If you didn’t know what the origin of this song was , would it matter ? This song is going to effect more people than you might think. My spouse spent 10 month’s in a nursing home before he died and during that time and especially after the death ( I still visit ) I have become more aware of how much the residents crave “ the human touch “. My friends and acquaintances there want to hold my hand , kiss my hand , get a hug , or give me a full body hug , much more so than the usual person , " reaching out for some connection “. Having heard this song, I took it to the residents’ group president . Without hearing it , he was immediately interested . Then he proceeded to youtube to hear it . Now this beautiful song will be played at their next meeting. We’ll see what kind of response it gets . We are hoping that it will be affirming and healing .

Ive had the pleasure of photographing Jackson but my photos cant even begin to capture the love of this artist, this man, this human being that has created some of the best music in all era's of all musical genres. He has the voice and can write the songs and always has the best musicians in his bands. I admire him greatly as a person and wish always the best for him

You will never know the influence your music was on my life.....listening endlessly into the night...to "late for the sky"...and "the pretender" ....from my lonely room as a teenager....I eventually became the pretender...mundane job...beautiful girl...paint by number dreams...right down to the house on the highway....sometimes i thought you were a prophet...as well as the poet laureate of our times.....but you weren't to blame...for my shortcomings or the world's.....still saying a prayer for you Jackson.....and if you can, say a prayer for all of us pretenders who waited on the changes for love to bring.....and if you get some time...for your sake and mine...read over the letters in red again...just the letters in red....because you know in the end...."it is the wink of an eye"

I have been listening to Jackson since I put the needle on the first song on his first album. I had the privilege of meeting him in 2011 at the Clearwater Hudson festival where he played solo for a small group of attendeees. What is amazing about Jackson's music is how we as listeners can equate it to something in our current lives. This song translates so well on whats going on today with Covid-19. Pain & suffering and yet the love and kindness that has been displayed by millions is extraordinary. Thank you Jackson and Leslie and all involved in crafting this prayer.
