the seventies are rarely spoken about, almost like they never happened. But for those of us who went whole hog in, we did storm the barricades of heaven and caught a good long look at what the human race could become. God i feel so lucky to have gone thru it all communes, music, love for each other, dreaming and bringing them to life. I can't help but cry when i hear jackson, he more then anyone is the recorded voice for all the songs we sang and never did record,..where have they gone. God help us all to get back there somehow, where consumption wasn't the game we played.

I wasn't born until '91 but I'm into a large variety of rock/punk/metal and even some country ranging from the 60s to current day, I'm not claiming to be the most knowledgeable person when it comes to music just a fan of a lot of it. However, in my humble opinion the 70s had the best quality of music in terms of song quality. Discounting disco of course.

I lived as a young adult through the heart of the seventies. It was mainly a time of fear and anxiety medicated by large quantities of pot, acid,peyote, liquor,cigarettes and random sex. The counterculture was mainly a tool of the faux socialst that thought that hard work and real business was for sell outs. Some of the brightest never let go for a stoners perspective of the universe even though they had themselves become the real sellouts. They became the deep state, the worker bees for the socialist globalist collective. They devolved from free thinkers into cowardly followers of all things progressive. Their centers become moral mush and justification of outrageous behavior became their hobby. The collected their toys, took no real risks and settled into the very life they despised. Now fourty eight years later they are more empty than when they we 21. They stand for an america that does not exist, rail on everyone that does not agree with them condemning a person's very right to have a different opinion. However having now obtained financial success they believe themselves to be the champions of all those whom they condemned behind closed doors. Their minds had become closed themselves and their understanding of the world at large had morphed into a stoned version of George Carlin at his most cynical. Real love was never found.

I think that the 70s were also a time of reckoning -looking around at the collateral,damage- of burn-out cases, violence at concerts, growing awareness of environmental pollution and destruction. The sixties were loud demands for equality and freedom from societal stricturures, and the seventies were folk-inflected pleas for change.

That voice, those words, and that guitar uniquely Jackson Browne epitomizes the 1970s. Time for his voice again.

One of Jackson's best pieces of songwriting imho, and that is saying a lot considering just how damn awesome he is. It's amazing how many layers of meaning and wisdom he can pack in just a few minutes. What's even more amazing about this song is it was written well past his prime, it's from 1995! I saw him on a solo acoustic tour a few years ago and it was just amazing. He is one of the best songwriters of his generation, period. Thanks for the tunes, Jackson!

Jackson Browne's vocal tone and register in solo performances easily matches the Eagles soaring harmonies.

"Better bring your own redemption when you come." Brilliant.

straight into the nights where are spirits have flown. Nice. Jackson Browne is one of our best songwriters and singers. They don't make them like that anymore.

Absolute brilliant song writing. No one writes and sings likes this anymore. And only 41k views, what a shame...

What a pretty song . I love the guitar.

That's some song! Jackson's depth as an artist knows no bounds.

Jackson is 4 yrs. older than me, and when he started out, he was 16 in 1965. He lived the West Coast side of the Decade of turbulence which ran from Nov22 of 1963 to Aug. 15 1974. The youth was trying to raise the level of consciousness on both coasts, from race riots that started out in watts on the West coast, to Newark on the East coast, while the larger part of discrimination was occurring in all parts of the country. Jackson's voice was one that spoke out against man's own destruction, through nuclear energy. The movement then was more than just protesting a war, but of man's inhumanity against man. Harry Chapin championed for solving World Hunger years before it became the stylish thing to do. We all "Better bring our own redemption when we come, to the barricades of heaven from where we're from." Thanks Jackson, Harry, Neil and all of the others for bringing awareness to reality, and for those of us who stayed committed to it. PEACE

I think of my friends of my youth, most are gone now, the ones that are left are so far from me we probably wouldn't even recognize each other during our passings. I wish them all the best.
