I sorely wish Tarantino had made more 'straight' film dramas like Jackie Brown. It's an outstanding piece of storytelling.

i think Max loved Jackie from the start, but by the end realised he couldn't trust her. Jackie drives off into the sunset with a stack of money but back to square one and alone. as amazing as Tarantino dialogue always is its the unspoken parts of this movie that tell the story.

It’s not really about trusting her it’s basically how dangerous she is and how he isn’t really involved in stuff like that even though he loves her he knew he had to let her go and she in the end was tearing up since even though she got away with it all she still loves max and wished he came with her

"How hard it is to age....in poverty." You hit it on the head, K.S.O., this was a fantastic reaction to, what I think, is Tarantino's most mature work. It's the only movie he's done that's based on a book - and it's an Elmore Leonard book to boot! Thank you so much for doing this one, I KNEW you'd love it!!!!!!

Jackie and Max are one of my favorite movie couples. They are wonderfully honest with each other. I like to think that when Jackie sent him that postcard, he went to join her at wherever she sent it from. And did you notice the music she played in their early scene at her apartment? It was The Delfonics (Max later buys the cassette, and it's playing when he and Odell are driving together at the end), and if you notice the second song playing in the background behind Jackie and Max is "La la la Means I Love You," which you've done a reaction to (I'm the one who requested it 😊). kzread.info/dash/bejne/lWuirdB6YKm4XZc.html

I think Max is wise enough not to. He's been around the block. But when you meet an attractive woman of a particular age who is still about 'the hussle', while yiu are trying to get out of the business: that's not the woman for you. Not at that age. Jackie is a dangerous woman who chooses crime when she gets desperate. She will never hurt him but, would you want that possible drama in your life when you are trying to slow down. I think I would do the same as Max. Let her go; a lot of people died. I don't want to invite that energy in my retirement but I'm glad I helped her.

Jackie Brown has a soft spot in my heart. My mom rented it from the video store (back when that was a thing) and didn’t watch it until late at night. I couldn’t sleep so I went looking for her. It was my first exposure to a Tarantino film + the gorgeous Pam Grier. I sat on the couch with my mom and watched it. We both loved it. She died 20 years ago but every time I see or hear mention of this movie, I think of that night watching it with my mom.

I still say this is Tarantino's most underrated movie, though I suppose it's more so just underseen as it's generally well regarded by those who've watched it. Pam Grier is fantastic, Sam Jackson is as good as it gets, and DeNiro is quietly really darn funny in this.

Glad you liked this film - it's often overlooked. In the book, there is an ambiguity about Jackie - particularly at the end - she was twice married and partner in crime to two husbands who both met untimely ends while in both instances, she got away free and clear. The end in the book leaves you hanging waiting for Max's decision as he weighs the possibility that maybe he's been played too by this black widow and that he, the only living soul who knows the truth could suddenly join deceased husbands one and two.

It’s sad how America in general, has politically removed Indigenous black folks from their land and resources. (Reparations needed) This movie highlights the difficulties of growing old without financial resources and the desperation it causes. Both Jackie (Pan Grier) and Samuel L. both know the real stories that have these themes as well. They have inspired many, for many years, to remember these often overlooked details, in our struggle to progress. They both did a phenomenal job, with an all star cast to boot! Great review...and synopses!

One of my all-time favorite Tarantino movies. Too few of my favorite reactors have reacted to this gem. & based on a crime novel called Rum Punch, by a favorite novelist, Elmore Leonard. Like Tarantino, Leonard was known for the snappy dialog & off-the-wall characters in his stories. So this adaptation is a perfect fit.

A really funny movie about "Blaxploitation" movies is Eddie Murphy's "Dolemite is my name". Its actually based on a true story about a Black comedian who started off with selling recordings of his very rude comedy skits and then decided to make a movie. He ended up making one of the worst movies EVER but the process was so funny that someone turned the whole thing into a book and thats what the movie is based on. The movie itself was so bad that it became a hit comedy, even though it was meant to be a dramatic private detective movie. Dolemite is my name is hilarious. I highly recommend it.

But he broke his own rules for Jackie. Thats why he cant be with her, cause no matter how much he loves her, their relationship is built on a foundation of deception, not with each other, but what the two of them did. But also, he knows he's the lone wolf, and she's the eagle. He has to let her fly.
