Just lovely. Watching this with a baby Jackdaw snuggled into my lap. Just enjoyed its breakfast of meal worms, seeds and cold porridge! Sweep is a rescue from a chimney sweeps disturbance of the nest. Parents did not come back and was heartbreaking watching I it slowly going downhill. Only intervened when it was close to the end. Happy to report getting big and strong after lots and lots of TLC, who needs sleep anyway?! As I look down at it sleeping in my arms, full belly and content I know I did the right thing and it's going to be ok.

We had a lonely and domestic jackdaw around our forest and very few neighbours. He was very social and friendly and liked to hang around our yard and the neighbours. He suddenly died and the neighbours were happy of his death. It's very sad that some people don't appreciate the nature and see how wondrous it is.

There's a jackdaw comes to our house every morning and calls for his/her food and it even looks in the kitchen window. Sometimes when I get out of the car he/she calls to me. I'm not sure how the jackdaw knows me but they're a very clever bird and it's nice to strike up a relationship with a wild animal.

My neighbour is a chimney sweep and came home with four jax after he knocked them out of a chimney. Knowing they wouldn't survive he brought them home and handed them to me because he didn't know what to do with them.....well I now have four fully fledged youngsters that are hand tame and absolutely love human company. The Mrs and kids love them. BRILLIANT.

ive been leaving out peanuts for the crows but mainly jackdaws are coming to get them. They are starting to understand what time i lay them out, today for the first time, one landed when i was in the garden, reading a book, it took a peanut and left, and came back.. I believe they are starting to recognize me, as a few jackdaws in a nearby park have been flying vero close to me. I hope one day, they are brave enough to greet me this close, on my arm.

There have been a fair few reputable studies that suggest that corvids (the bird family that includes crows, magpies and jackdaws, amongst others) recognise faces - so they most likely do recognise you. I've experienced similar behaviour to what you have described from crows, magpies and jackdaws - and the only explanation that makes sense is that they recognised us. We've even tried testing a little ourselves - and they didn't recognise strangers, but did recognise us, regardless of what we were wearing or the time we saw them. Incredible creatures.

A young jackdaw has been visiting me the last couple of days and he is completely unafraid of me. Today I handfed him and just sat and talked to him for a while, it seemed he didn't want to leave. I am not really sure what to do about it. I hope he wont rely on me for food (though I think other people in my building is feeding him as well) so I am not feeding him too much, but is really nice to have him coming back.

What a wonderful contribution this video is! On my daily walk to work I'd been noticing some birds because of their cry, which sounded to me like a squeaky toy. I made note of their appearance & call to find out what they were. Yours was one of the resources I used to identify the jackdaw. I've been living here for 17 years now & I'd never noticed them before. Thank you :)

In consecutive years I raised two jackdaw chicks that had fallen from a high nest. They were Jacko and Jacko-two. How original is that? The first ended up semi-tame and once fully fledged stayed locally for about 6 months, coming to me when called .The second was kept wild (not easy when hand feeding a tiny nestling) and stayed around for two weeks after fledging. I suspect Jacko-two had a greater chance of long-term survival.
