Do you own a Russell Terrier? Which one? And what is your experience with it?

We have a parson & she is very affectionate, stubborn, smart , extremely fast & loves cuddle , if we are not in her eyesight she will stop what she is doing to seek us out we just love her.

have a parson and he’s on my pfp, very energetic and likes meeting new people, is actually agreeable in mornings and evening, bites a lot, like a little too close and you have blood on your thumb.

My Parson Russell's name was Jake he was with me for 13 years and he changed my life! We lost him 2 years ago but the little guy ran a million miles in the country side of northern MD. He had free reign to run free on untouched countryside for his prime years, he was a little white blur. To say he was prey driven was an understatement, he was a little hunter with a few too many successful hunts possibly. The adventures we had were countless and I will love him forever.

My brother has a Parsons terrier and if you blink the dog is somewhere else. So alert, you can see it in their eyes. But the best friend he could have.

I'm on my second Parson Russell Terrier, they are a lot of work and not for the faint hearted. They will challenge you daily for dominance, their energy is infinite, their loyalty, curiosity and fearlessness is legendary. Best dog breed ever!

I have a 8 month old smooth coat Jack Russell Terrier , who is very friendly with people , and other dogs. My Jack Russell is fearless and built like a little tank, and is the best little friend I’ve ever had. I can see he has amazing hunting skills built into his DNA 🧬 by the way he grabs his toys and rapidly shakes them by the neck. I’ve noticed he loves to dig holes in my yard.

Wow apparently, I have a Parson Russell! I love him, he came to me at the right time! We live in the bush, so perfect for lots of walks n runs n exploring! Thanks for the video 🌺

I own a Jack Russel, and he is very affectionate, and loyal. he does require a pretty long walk every day, and prefers that I walk him with my power wheelchair, rather than my son who walks. this is mostly due to the fact that my chair can go 6.5MPH, -v- my son's ~2.5 MPH gait. I believe if my chair could go 10 MPH, he would not complain. I got my dog as a rescue 3 years ago. he was starved half to death and had multiple open wounds and sores on his body. he was 5 years old when I got him, and weighed only 11 pounds. he now is a very trim, and muscular 23 lbs ( my vet said he is at his best healthy weight right now) and no longer fears physical contact, and in fact wants to be touching me any time I am stationary for even a moment. all in all, he has been a wonderful companion to me and I am lucky to have him in my home.

My parson russell has been called a JRT his whole life (his name is literally Jack because of it lol) and learning about this has been super cool so thank you! I love my little demon with way too much energy

I saw online that there is a company that trains Jack Russells as personal protection dogs. I checked a lot into it and if you get the hyper driven/aggressive ones from each litter you look at, Then all you will need is 4, or 5 maybe 6 dogs for your pack, who can keep each other busy and occupied and mentally stimulated to save your furniture, shoes and clothes from destruction and they will watch out the windows for any sort of person or critter with mal‐ intent. You can train the dogs each to attack certain areas of a person (#1 Attacks the Achilles tendon ; #2 attacks the crotch; #3 attacks the hand; #4 jumps for the neck; #5 and #6 will probably join in just for fun ‐ At this point it doesn't really matter, the intruder/attacker is frightened out of their wits), they hit sensitive parts that as humans automatically rush to protect, attack points are meant to render them incapable of movement and when you have so many buzzsaws at you, all you want to do is get away. You can't fight off 4 to 6 of them, Which is why this company trains them for guards who will act, not just bark, if it is necessary. This could possibly be some good training for the Jagdterrier, or the Patterdale if they are pack breeds. Are they?

Interesting, i guess they could be trained to be good protectors, but as you said, they must be in larger numbers. Jagdterriers and Patterdales are pack animals.

@@Rocadog then they would be good for this sort of protection too, wouldn't they? Or are they not protective types that bond with with their masters? Sometimes I have trouble finding out these small but important details, and other times my eyes bother me from staring at the blue light coming from my computer screen....

Great explanation of the confusion of the origin and names of the 3 breeds. I am on my second jack Russell. Great dogs for people who want to interact with their dogs for hours everyday. I really don’t know who enjoys playing ball more. Him or me. :) serious energy.

This is so interesting! We got papers saying our dog is a Jack Russell, but he certainly looks more like a Russell Terrier!😯

I have an out of standard (26 lb.) Jack Russell rescue dog, Lucy, 15 years old. What brought me here was trying to ID Lupa, in the tv series Ice Cold Murders.

I read the Jack Russell was more for hunting and the Parsons was more a show dog.

Hello William, i am from Czech Republic. I owned various dogs throughout my live, but most of them were not purebred dogs. Currently i have a medium sized dog from shelter, that was previously abused, she is some kind of a spitz mix i guess. Previously i had Cocker Spaniel mix, Boxer, Labrador (one mix and one pure), Rottweiler. I was also a puppy raiser for company that trains dogs for blind people. She is very alert around strangers, but very playful and gentle once they got to know them. I had no idea, thanks again, Rocadog. Tell me this, are Jagdterriers "pack". Are Patterdale Terriers "pack"?

I love these terriers, they're so cute. But I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with them. I need a dog who likes to go out for walks, but no more than twice a day for 45 - 60 minutes, and happy just lounging around during the day.😄

I have a jack russell - a rescue. She is 13 y/o - I've had her 10 of the 13 years. She is energetic but not too much. I take her out a couple of times a day. She is always sniffing and wants to put things in her mouth which I don't allow because she can have sensitive digestion so to avoid cleaning up messes I monitor her closely. Unless you get a young dog I think the temperament and energy are manageable. I will say that when I am not home she is crated to help her stay out of trouble, but she likes it because she can get overwhelmed in the house alone by herself.

I love Jack Russell terriers I was raised with them my entire life, my family used to breed them, and now I have 2 myself! Both a female and a male. My male is 3/4 JRT and 1/4 Chihuahua but looks just like a JRT, I believe he looks lost like a standard Jack Russell terrier, he has a smooth red and white coat, both parents were red and white smooth coat. He’s 4 years old and the best boy ever, couldn’t ask for a more intelligent or loyal companion. Love him to bits. My female is 10 months old, she is also a standard JRT, red and white broken coat, her mom was red and white long coat and her dad was red and white smooth coat. I can’t say enough good things about this breed, but you must have a high degree of empathy to meet their needs, be extremely loyal and loving by nature and these dogs will give you the same thing in return. With this breed it is very important that you train and rule with respect- because they will never respect you if they fear you and therefore you will never see their true nature and potential. They may be little, but they would lay their lives on the line for you at any moment or obstacle. They are fierce little love bugs. I’ll never own anything else because I love them SO much.

I'm sorry, but this is very difficult to understand. Bummer, eh. I do not appreciate using acronyms instead of the actual, complete breed name.

I have a 20lb jack Russell , I've seen him out run whitetail deer in the summertime. I call him back with a training collar.
