    Adolescence is a nightmare. They forget everything they 'know' and say 'up yours !'. Just keep at it and he will settle down. This trainer is clearly very good at this and has spent a lot of time to get it this fluid. Very nice work on his part. This looks like force free training to me. I love my Jacks as they're so challenging - it keeps me on my toes.

    I'm on my third JR in 36 years, not very obedient (due to their breeding) but fabulous with children, pussy cats and people. My first lasted 15 years, the second 17, my third is now 2. I would give almost anything the have them all at once. Molly is playing with my left index finger as I type this. Bloody dog! I love her to bits!

    rightangle They are one of the most obedient dogs, actually. If they are genuinely trained properly. They may be difficult with being let off the lead. And choose to run off due to curiosity. But they can be trained very well to sit, stay and other tricks, for the most part. And will return to you, if you use the correct words, such as treats or snacks or something similar. And give them a small treat for obeying your command. Most JRT'S are best to train with treats. As they're food orientated.

    I've always had border collies my last girl passed two years ago and unfortunely I've moved into accomadation that only allows small dogs. I love collies because of their intelligence as I love training advanced obedience and the fact they have the energy to go out for long hikes and camping trips. In so lonely without a dog as I'm a introvert who doesnt enjoy human company at all but most small dogs just aren't what I'm looking for. I'm considering settling for a jack russel they won't be as intelligent or as engaged as a collie but they do seem to have energy to keep up with long walks and they seem to have fun little personalitys my friend said they're mischief but not obedient they don't like other dogs or pets and need to be always on leash due to their hunting instint from them being terriers they have no recall bit they're cute energetic loyal and love to cuddle at the end of a busy day

She has a lot of energy to run off and sometimes can become very distracted and can ignore us. Did you have trouble in the 5-9 month range in the off-leash setting? Any tips for strong recall?

    Great Trainer! Jack Russells, in my opinion, are the top 10 smartest dogs, however the hardest dogs to train because the breed is highly rooted to pack instincts. Other words, JRs are too thick headed and stubborn. You guys don't realize how many hours this trainer put in. Kudos my friend. Never tussle with a Jack Russell.

A few times he has run off when we have the door open. Is it possible to train my dog this same way at home before taking him out? He has a mind of his own

  • @TomsBergs

    @TomsBergs

    4 жыл бұрын

    I don't know how to deal with "run off's" because mine hates to be alone - he always follows me. But about distractions - take him on the leash, and prepare treat what he loves most - cheese, sausage... Treat that he loves and is crazy for it. Go outside - where is distractions (maybe don't go immediately on busy street) and try to take his attention with treat to yourself. You must be fast - in the second he looks at you and gives attention to you - give treat immediately! Do it always when you go outside. Always have treats with you! He will remember after short time.

    Jazz Jazz Exactly what I was thinking. Take away the music. So the training commands etc, could be heard. The owner of the dog who uploaded this video has explained elsewhere in the comments, that this video was originally intended for their own dog trainer. To check on the progress of their training. And didn't expect this much attention from other YT viewers. However, I'm sure that even the trainer would have preferred to hear the dog and the owner properly. Rather than some cute piece of music.

    771 You made a very valid point. Regardless of the wording from your comment, I just hope the OP bothered to genuinely look for the dogs original owner. You cannot just have a dog "show up" at your house, and you decide to keep it. WTF is wrong with some people. And it's no wonder the dog is looking to escape. It probably wants to get back to its real home. And doesn't want to make another person's yard, its new home. For all the OP knows, the dog had managed to get out of their own yard. And the original owner is just frantic and heartbroken about their dog being missing. I know that I would be totally devastated if my dog got out and I couldn't find him. And some fool has decided to just selfishly keep my dog.

    Mine is 4 years old and jumps the fence all the time. I've tried so many things but her long skimpy boney spring legs are just too much for her

    shankar sandi JRT'S do come in a broken coat.. both smooth and rough. But this dogs snout/jaw seems a bit more broad for a JRT. Which makes me think that it may be a Parsons Russell Terrier. Or mixed with a Scotty.

    try exercising him more, a lot of that hyper is just extra energy that needs to be burned off. you cant train a energetic pup without tiring him out first

    Sounds like you're doing a great job. Keep at it, he'll get there. Don't forget to reinforce calm behaviours.

    Yes, long walks are good to calm a hyper dog. And when you train a JRT, it's best to just do it for a few minutes at a time. And about 2 to 3 times each day. Too much training, too often, can be detrimental to a JRT. Or you can make training a part of your playtime with them. That way they are learning, without them realising that they are being trained.

    Hi! I started on 4 months. We started with "heal" command. I took him on leash and in that moment when he made eye contact with me - i gave treat. I always rewarded him and now I don't have any problems. Now I can give commands and he listens without treats. What to give him - everything what he loves and is crazy about. Treat that you don't give him often. Mine is crazy about cheese, but I used special dog snacks - you can buy in shops. There is loot of varieties.
