What’s the movie Jack Reacher about?
Ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) leaps off the pages of Lee Child’s bestselling novel and onto the big screen in the explosive thriller the critics are calling “taut, muscular, gruff and cool”*. When an unspeakable crime is committed, all evidence points to the suspect in custody who offers up a single note in defense: “Get Jack Reacher!”. The law has its limits, but Reacher does not when his fight for the truth pits him against an unexpected enemy with a skill for violence and a secret to keep. During his investigation, Jack will discover that the real perpetrators are a gang led by a former Soviet political prisoner : Zec Chelovek (Werner Herzog).

Fascinating movie. Jack is a former MP, which means he's both trained and EXPERIENCED about human behavior. Throughout this movie, he's blown away by the people he encounters, and I used to think it was just because they were stupid. Nope! Jack's surprise and suspicious glare is triggered by people breaking the patterns of normal behavior. He expected this gang to dissipate, and it didn't. He is suspicious of who hired them; they were clearly scared of somebody to come at him so hard. Every Fry-like stare is him seeing cracks in the glossy false front of a mad shooter.

ALWAYS *assume* your opponent is at least as good or better, than you; act accordingly. Rural Western Massachusetts: a few years back; I suddenly encountered a LARGE Brown Bear (male) on a backwoods road in open daylight: we clearly surprised one another and we BOTH froze instantly; couldn't have been but two car lengths between us. There was absolutely NO-where for me to GO. No WAY to outrun, outgun, fight and prevail against the beast. Knowing I would die, I shot up my arms and *SCREAMED* the loudest, deepest, most ragged "roar" I have EVER heard come out of my own body -before or since!! Bear was confused. Bear backed up, turned and BOOKED. Point to my yarn? (YES ... it HAPPENED; no lie) Wasn't really about me; Brown BEAR decided not to tangle with an unknown element: ME. Rather than expend energy on a large, unfamiliar creature (I'm not a small man) where it was unclear that he could prevail and the stakes weren't high enough to warrant a brawl, he retreated to fight an another day. Had it been a *Mama* Bear, with CUBS ... ? Damn.

I'm telling you , when a person completely dominates a fight they will do that to show others , and the one they are beating that they are owned ! I have experienced this first hand while in the military. One night we knew there was going to be a fight in the barracks between an acquaintance / friend of mine . He was a quiet kind of guy but had been having a problem with another fellow in our platoon and a couple of his friends . When the two started out my buddy stated he didn't come to fight but to settle the whatever problem this guy had with him , but that obviously was not going to happen . This other fellow was larger , taller and heaver than my pal , didn't matter in the least . My pal landed the first 2 to 3 punches quicker than a blink of the eye while the 8 or 10 of us standing around went completely silent ! My buddy started talking to , I'll call his ( Prey ) about the dangers of harassing someone you don't know, and to this day some 40 years later I swear he was teaching all of us standing there , while he continued laying / landing devastating precised blows and beat the dog piss out of this guy and never received the first blow himself ! I will never forget that invaluable lesson I received while at Fort.Benning GA. in the barracks around 22:00 hrs. during basic training . Never , Never judge a book by it's cover , it could cost you your life !

I agree. The Jack Reacher of the books is a towering giant. Imagine someone way over 6 foot with a massive physique; would any of these guys think about fighting him? Probably not. It is more impressive that Tom Cruise's Reacher is shorter because now the confidence level of those fighting him is way high based on the fact that they think they can take him. I enjoy this version of Reacher from that perspective, but if you want the actual Reacher character, know that he will probably beat these average guys quicker and more than likely scare them from even fighting him in the first place. That would make many scenes anti-climatic. What Cruise lacks in height, he makes up in attitude.

I’m sure Alan Ritchson watched these movies in preparation for Reacher on Amazon because there are definitely Tom Cruise mannerisms in the show and it fucking works. I’ve been a fan of Ritchson since Smallville and then he was Thad in Blue Mountain State so props to him for the Reacher role because I think he killed it.

@@davelanger Watched it twice brotha. It’s really good. My opinion, They took an overused plot and added their twist to it, but they also added the KFC Colonel’s 11 herbs & spices mixed with Baskin Robbins 31 flavors because the characters, the script and constant on-goins are **chef’s kiss**
