Jack Rabbit front seat on-ride 4K POV Kennywood
Built in 1920, this terrain coaster is the oldest in the park and a true classic in every sense of the word. What really sets it apart from other coasters its age is the double dip it features on the third drop.
Kennywood is located near Pittsburgh in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

Great coaster. Video really doesn't do it justice and makes it appear more rickety than it is. It's an incredibly smooth ride. It's nearly 100 years old, still packs a bit of punch, and the double-dip is still a thrill as you lift up and swear you're going to fly out. So grateful that Kennywood maintains their three classic coasters so well. It would be a shame to see these rides go away.

I loved that leather strap they used in the name of safety. It gives a vague sense you're not going to fly away when you hit the double dip. I think those little "trust the physics" moments are missing in modern coasters...

I remember as a kid walking up to the Jack Rabbit ride with my brother and some friends, they were all tall enough to ride and I wasn't so had to sit outside the ride and wait. I moved away but went back to visit 15 years later and finally got to ride it. Kennywood was and still is this magical place for anyone that grows up in Pittsburgh or other cities and towns nearby.
The coaster celebrates it’s centennial this year! Happy 100th Jack Rabbit!
For anyone thinking this must be impossibly rough, its just because its being recorded by a mounted camera. It’s actually surprisingly smooth

cant believe this ride is 100 years old. my first and favorite coaster
Amazing to consider this coaster's nearly a century old. Looks like they've kept it well maintained, other that some spots where the paint could use some touch-up work.
The first real rollercoaster I rode back in the 70's.This one holds a very special place in my heart.
The shaky camera is creating a false impression about Jack Rabbit being rickety, when it's actually one of the smoothest classic coasters out there. The roughness is due to the poor POV. There's even noticeable shimmying just heading up the lift. I love the channel, but scrap this upload; it's not doing a good coaster any favors.

Remember riding this when I was a kid and had the great fortune to be able to experience it here with my 6 year old daughter for the first time this past week. As many have pointed out that double dip gives you such a feeling of airtime it's hard to replicate even 90+ years since its construction.

What's with all the negative comments on this coaster? RMC, GCI, or "Thunderbolt is the best ever" fanboys? I mean, really. How the heck is this on it's last legs? You can see with your own eyes how well this ride is maintained by noticing-new wood, sections clearly painted within 1-2 years and also new looking, and the fact it runs smoothly around the turns, just from eye view of the video. The train also isn't "PTC" it's styled to older with padding on the bottom and sides. If you've ridden "Coney Island Cyclone(not any of the clones/copies)" you know. It's like if GCI existed in 1920 for seating. Not to mention it has three trains, it has a freakin back up! Now the only problem here is why the camera is so shaky at the beginning, that is not real on the ride at all.
This is literally one of the smoothest wooden coasters ever.
It went on it yesterday and while we were going up for the double dip we broke a fuse and it stopped. The Iron curtain also stopped. We were all chill a about it and our ride got resumed, despite that its 100% my favorite ride!

Interesting chain lift and layout in general.
I LOVE the old wooden coasters. Kids as young as 4 can ride this, but it's fun as hel for all ages. The bumpyness just makes it better!
The camera is shaking so much it makes it look like the ride is awful. It's. Actually great
Seeing this pov before the ride got going I could smell the grease and old leather seats. Nostalgia.

My first coaster. Terrified me, at 8 yrs old. Turned me into a full fledged adrenaline junkie. Always out for the next big thrill, after incredible hulk. Love the double down, from the back seat.
Back in the early days of kennywood, someone would have to STAND AND LEAN OUT OF THE TRAIN with an oil can to lubricate the ride properly. There are pictures in one of those "Pittsburgh History" books showing a man doing it. People were nuts

thx for the video !
That ride scared the bajeezus out of me when I was 8. That double dip made me fly out of my seat and I lost it.

Some sources say this was the first coaster to have upstop wheels. If that is true, then nearly every existing coaster in the world is a descendant of it.
Hi and love to my friend Lois. Who had lots of fun on this coaster.❤
great memories..double dip:)
Wow looks so old I liked
Just my speed! Thanks!!
does it use a stationary second chain as the antirollback? if so that is an uninique idea
This vid doesnt do the double dip justice. The coaster secures the 2 riders in each car with a horizontal bar, but if u jam ur hand in between the bar u can basically ride without anything holding you in. The double dip would literally throw u out of ur seat and u had to catch yourself before it tossed u from the coaster.

Kennywood has ravines on the right side of the park and in the upper left corner of the park. Back in the 1920’s (before Environmental Impact Permitting) the designers used those features as natural drop offs. In their largest woodie, The Thunderbolt, the loading station is on the edge of a ravine. They simply release the tension brake and the train immediately drops into the ravine. The last drop in the Thunderbolt is actually the deepest one (again because it drops into the ravine).
Christ on a bike the 100 year old POV video is more watchable than this!

YASSS DOUBLE DIP
As of earlier this year, the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood has turned 100 years old. (1 century old)
it was a bit disappointing that you couldn’t hear screaming of all the people on the ride ik it’s only one person on the ride during this but screaming just makes it so much more enjoyable not to sound weird or anything but it just seems more fun when you hear screaming people
Best to sit in the back seat on this coaster.
It used to have only a strap across the lap to keep you in.

Seatbelts on coasters are not the primary locking mechanism. In fact, they are just a redundancy. The seatbelt’s only purpose is to make the coaster look safer.
