He and Shirley together in this movie was perfect. Both such amazing actors, and she deserved the win too just as much as Jack did (possibly more) so in this case the right actor and actress won. I don't think there will ever be actors like Jack Nicholson and Shirley Maclaine. Debra Winger too and Jeff Daniels, but Jack and Shirley were on a whole other level of greatness at their craft.
@contractmed1
Ай бұрын
I had seen Shirley in "The Apartment", "Oceans Eleven" and "Bernie" first, but "Terms of Endearment" made me a fan. I'm not a big fan of Jack Nicholson's earlier work but based on his work in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (which I think might be the greatest performance to have won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role) and onward I think he's the greatest actor who isn't dead, and his performance in "Terms of Endearment" never fails to make me smile. I feel like Debra gets overlooked too often in "Terms of Endearment", her performance melted my heart and made me fall in love with her. And Jeff did a fine job as well.

12 nominations. His most recent “About Schmidt”. His last film was12 years ago - also directed, written, and produced by James L Brooks - “How Do You Know?”. He seems to be retired now (he turned 85 last month). “Living Legend” is a term used all too often, I MO. But if anyone deserves that title, it is Nicholson.

I have a black and white photo of him wearing his sunglasses smiling with his head next to a mirror that used to be my Home Screen.
Jack's actually pretty nervous up there, stammering and sweating.

Yeah looks like he's panicking a bit. He was probably pretty close to getting some sort of attack but restrained himself perfectly

I love Jack Nicholson! He is one if not my favorite actors!

YOU, are the caretaker. You've always been the caretaker.
I'm so sad we're losing him....love him so very much
Damn! Mary Taylor Moore just got down to business right away!

hahaha I thought the same thing
Back when they were happy humble and grateful for their talent.
Durning, Lithgow, Jack, Shepard and Rip... all five among my favorite actors, nominated in the same category, the same year. Nice.
I Iove that he also acknowledges the other actors nominated for the award. Not many winners do that. This just substantiates why he's in my top five actors of all time. Go Jack! ☺

He's in my top five as well, higher than anyone else alive.
Gotta love Jack , Only man who can rock the shades at the academys in the 80s and in the 90s lol legendary
Rock on....Jack is always most humble when he wins an Oscar.
John Lithgow for Terms of Endearment... *sound of crickets*.... Jack Nicholson for Terms of Endearment.... *raucous applause*.... poor John lol
This man is the epitome of cool!
Such a great performance. Well deserved.
RIP Sam Shepard
This guy's voice just amazing

My dad and I love quoting his line about "good times, noodle salad" from his later Academy Award winning performance in "As Good as it Gets", though my dad admits that I do a much better impression of Jack than he does, I once even bragged that I could probably do a better impression of him than anyone else in a restaurant where he, myself, his barber, and my mom were eating dinner.
"they're planning an interpretive dance later" Lmao! So funny!
We tend to say every generation thinks the older times were the best. But I’m not from the generation of this movie, I wasn’t even born when he won this award and I know this was better… and it will never be like this again. I love Jack Nicholson and his collaboration with Jim Brooks, some of the best movies ever. Thank you Mr. Nicholson and Mr. Brooks (like Jack would say ❤️)
Anjelica Huston and Meryl Streep at 2:00 :)

And jack daughter
A well-deserved Oscar for a performance that never fails to make me smile. Here's to Jack Nicholson.
@Hemloch There was a delay with the editing of our latest batch of clips but it will be up for sure no later than Friday.
You just know Jack had this one in the bag. Just watched Terms of Endearment again recently; much funnier than I remembered.
1:21 RIP Rip Torn .
I think Jacks so confident he is actting nervous for the benifit of others
12 nominations. His most recent “About Schmidt”. His last film was12 years ago - also directed, written, and produced by James L Brooks - “How Do You Know?”. He seems to be retired now (he turned 85 last month). “Living Legend” is a term used all too often, I MO. But if anyone deserves that title, it is Nicholson.
Timothy Hutton deserved the Oscar he got a few years earlier in Ordinary Family. That was perhaps the greatest performance I have ever seen by an actor.
"It's an honour to be presenting this award" - Timothy Hutton sounding less than convincing
@SG1Mitchell That clip is actually in our next batch that will be uploaded shortly. Thanks for your patience...the new batch should be coming in about a week.
The whole crowd know jack's gonna win...jack himself know he is gonna win.
He did a great job on that movie...all the stars did.
when you see him like this, you realise, it doesnt take a lot of effort for him to act! what an absolute legend. i totally would, even now. woof!
man i love his humor
how every character he played in the movies he played them just so perfect!!!? I love and watched many actors and actresses but I never saw actor play his characters so well like him
amazing group of actors just for supporting actor
Charles Durning in To Be or Not to Be was entertaining as Colonel Erhard i wish he could win an oscar at his lifetime. He was a very underrated actor.👏🏆✉️
well-diseved. I loved that not even knowing it was worth so many Oscars, but was definately thinking it deserved some. Terms of endearments is a classic.
Jack is quoted as saying "When Brando died, everyone moved up a notch", Nicholson is the world,s best actor FACT.
JACK IS ALWAYS the eternal GENTLEMAN. He is gracious & humble, & always humorous. LOVE YA JACK.
Great to see Mary and Tim together again, AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!😎❤
This was the same role he played in 'Something's Gotta Give'
This is the cream of the crop of actors!
napakagaling nyang aktor.... perpekto!!!
"Wait'll they get a load of ME!"
My favourite actors are him and Robert De Niro. De Niro cause he's so versatile and Nicholson cause he picks his roles very well.
OMG you can fell in love with him by just listening to his great sense of humor
He is creat one of the best performence EVER in this category.
Oh how big a movie was Terms Of Endearment!!!! I have at least double copies of it in DVD, Blueray and PC-file so that's one film I can take with me. As I go.
Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton. 🥰
He always had sunglasses on.
I'd take Jack over your Robert DeNiros and your Al Pacinos. Why? Because he matches their searing intensity in spades and yet makes you laugh like you've never laughed before in your life. He transcends his profession. Jack, you are my flag. My only fatherland. An inspiration to men the world over - teaching us NEVER to take ourselves too seriously and to come to everything we do with open hearts!
Happy Birthday Jack, 72 today, he's just awesome
Jesus, if they had an applause meter win Jack would have blown them out of the water.... 1:03

I saw that alright. Same thing happened when he won for cuckoos nest and for as good as it gets. Jack is just one of those guys who everybody loves. Even the women he cheated on still love him!!!
De mi lista de mejores actores ,de las ultimas comedias" alguien tiene que ceder " " Mejor Imposible" excelente !!!!
Jack deserved his Oscar for Terms and Cuckoo's Nest. I think Duvall should've won for The Apostle over As Good as It Gets. I also think Jack should've won best supporting actor for A Few Good Men over Gene Hackman in Unforgiven.
He’s one of my favorite actors 😊❤️
The eyebrows, Chico, they never lie.
Here is johnny !
Jack Nicholson IS the best actor ever!!!!
Shirley M. and Jack N. Amazing chemistry!! 👏🙂
Jack Nicholson should play someone who says The Exorcist is funny
I love how jack can tell hes one just by the reaction of the crowd>>
what a character jack is awesome!
Jack Nicholson
MERECIDOS APLAUSOS JACK, DISFRUTO MUCHO CON TUS PELÍCULAS. ERES MUY, MUY BUENO...!!!!!!!!!
When he's put on the spot, Jack actually seems like quite a shy person which is surprising.
lol he's workin' those shades :D xx
Good to see Beth and Conrad getting along!
He is so modest and bashful, love it.
He is a LEGEND! Love good old jack..😊👌
1:00 what a FACE !!!! GENIUS ! & his humor as sweet as he is ! God Bless Jack !
Jack Nicholson, I love you ,you´re the best!
I would have loved to see Rip Torn win. He really is an incredibly overlooked actor and was most excellent in "Cross Creek."
I cannot imagine of an actor, that does his acting so efforlessly convincing as Jack's
I agree about Rip Torn. He plays many different roles really well, and even turned in probably the best performance in the recent film August. He will get his Oscar at some point, though, I would say.
What a great surprise - Johnny!
Well he's not Ralph Richardson or Lord Olivier but you are right about one thing, his intensity is freakish. I can't think of a role from Five easy pieces to the Joker to Missouri breaks to The shining where whatever Jack does he just lifts the enterprise to a different level. The guy is a true standout.
