I'm 70 and was a reader of Jack London's adventures as a boy. It was only later that I learned of his political writing and socialist ideals. But Jack London was not really a communist. He would have been appalled if he knew what the Bolsheviks and Stalin were doing I grew up in Northern California, so I've been to Jack London State Park in Sonoma County and Jack London Saure in Oakland as it was all part of my environment. I also write books. I am not famous. But as a writer, I know a lot of history and notice things. This film was made in 1943. So it is no surprise that it focuses on Jack London's experiences during the Russo-Japanese War of 1905. it is also no surprise that the film portrayed Japan as having a plan for world domination in 1905, were treacherous, cruel, and arrogant. What is surprising is that the actors portraying the Japanese were actual Japanese. These actors and extras were chosen from the internees that were being held in camps during the war. About 40,000 were loyal to Japan and used to attack the American loyal Japanese. The riots were so bad that sometimes the army had to intervene with tanks and tear gas. The loyal Japanese Americans were determined to prove their loyalty. So they volunteered for a battalion that fought in Europe and was the most decorated outfit of the war. But I never knew until now that some of them portrayed the Japanese in this film. and they did not hold back one bit when it came to the portrayal of the Japanese in the film. They seem to be very committed to the film's portrayal. I would like to learn more about this film.

I'm not much for reading, but I like your ,words, writing. I am sixty and know I have missed out on alot by passing up so many library's and personal collections. I've built library's and book cases. It all passes so fast now. 👍🏻👍🏻 PS what amazes me is I chased all those beautiful women and the relationships, all in the passed and gone. Jack chased the stories, that have lasted and others enjoy, and missed out on the relationships. True sacrifice as I see it. 🤔?

My favorite "The Star Rover" - set me on a life-long course of infatuation with all Science Fiction. An excellent novel detailing how sensory deprivation can cause a new liberation in the mind - and off he went! Thanks Mom, my first big novel when I was in 6th grade.

When I was a kid, I saw other students walking around with the novel The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Whenever I hear his name, I think of that book. This should be an interesting film.

Enjoyable film and certainly lived a very full life although I do seem to remember from my school days some of the origins of his ideas could be a little controversial.

Louise Beavers as "Mammy Jenny" is painful to watch ! Her role here is an ideological project. The film could use some CRT.
