Jack described the guy on the train who helped him as a real life cowboy, spurs and all. Considering Jack would go on to live until 1983, it's amazing how much change in the world he would have seen.

I met Jack demsey with my mother at his famous restaurant in 1974, a great man, shook his massive hand, a big, straight, my mother was more impressed than I was, especially since she grew up during his era, thanks for the memories and keeping this relevant

@@johnlegg8559I love that story, they both refused to get up until the police arrived after he knocked them down. A Flame of Pure Fire is a compilation of all the best bits of Dempsey’s autobiographies. Bit wrong of him to do that but cos of it I think it’s the best biography of him, my favourite autobiography of his is the one he did with his daughter called Dempsey, I think I’ve read almost every book on him except the one about the long count

Jack Dempsey was hard as nails
A great case study in the early life of Jack Dempsey, aka: Kid Blackie. Jack had a real tough young life. He worked as a miner, he would fight all comers in many Colorado bars in addition to his professional fights. Life was tough for America in the early 1900's. Going hungry was a common occurrence with many, Jack was no different. He worked in the dangerous, hard ass work of the mines in numerous Colorado cities. Small mining towns like Cripple Creek Colorado was another town Jack worked in and fought in. It was during this time that a young Doc Kearns met Jack Dempsey and the rest is sports legend! Thanks for this well done and researched video on Jack Dempsey in his early years as a boxer.
Dempsey fought like a heavyweight Roberto Duran. Same pressure tactics, same sophistication, which is hard to spot sometimes because they were so ferocious and hit so hard.

Going to be hard to make a follow up to this one cos it’s so good. Amazing that they tried to film not only Dempsey-Fulton but as you discovered Dempsey-Miske! I’ve been collecting films for nearly 30 years and have dealt with some serious life time collectors and had never heard of them before, brilliant research and findings

Poverty got alot of guys to box make some fast cash. Also the drive to provide made them hungry to win which made alot of fighters successful
It was tremendous hard times back then
In addition to Tyson, Pernell Whitaker and Jack Dempsey are my all-time favorite fighters...
