Might be time to change the music and I will also listen to this with headphones on to see if it's actually a good thing to have this music 😆. But yes, I really liked the OC Rye and wish it was closer to $130 or $150 instead of $200+ but I know it would probably be very pricy to source these high aged A+ barrels from MGP and to double barrel it. Old Carter products are very good as long as you can afford the price. Most the time you see them $50-$100 above MSRP. I have noticed that they are sitting on the shelves a little longer than they were a year ago. But then again, so is everything else. Cheers David.🥃😎

Hey Michael! I totally agree on the budget. No need to overreach for any bottle of whiskey. My "tipping point" was when it went on sale to $200 and just I had to try it since I love the American Whiskey Batch 12 so much. It's definitely not going to be my "everyday" pour and will be a bottle I pull out only on special days I can share with friends and family. Hey RJ! I agree that the price point is a sticking point. Old Carter should not be a "everyday" whiskey that's for sure. Well, I guess one sign I win the lottery is if I start doing only Old Carter reviews 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I only get these bottles to share with friends and family during special days that call for it. I don't go to a steak restaurant and use those funds for this bottle 😆. Wife is not a fan but oh well. Always appreciate your support with quick check in on my videos! I was fortunate enough to get in on a pre-sale barrel pick for the JD rye later this year through Bourbon Chronicles, a channel out of the Cincinnati area. I’m anxious for those bottles to arrive hopefully around September, perfectly timed for fall campfires. If I ever run across any Old Carter, I’m going to pick it up just based upon your reviews of their products. 👍

Hey Justin! I have not regretted a single Old Carter purchase, even at $200+. If it's within your budget, I would recommend it as it is an experience that is unlike any other. There are too many people who try Old Carter and can't go back to anything else 🤣. I'm not one of them as I drink too much and can't afford to just drink Old Carter but one of the signs if I win the lottery will be if I start doing only Old Carter whiskey reviews 😂😂😂. As always great review and great information. The JDSBBPR is the only rye I have on my shelf. That said, I love the OC AW and Bourbon so I may need find a bottle of their rye and give it a try.

Great review! Saw this bottle next to the four gate line up at my local Total wine, I almost pulled the trigger until I walked down the rye aisle and found a JDSBBPR at 138.1 proof and that’s one I couldn’t say no to!

Great review David! I did see OC Rye Batch 12 going for $220 and just couldn't do it. JDSBBP rye is phenomenal and for the price point, hard to beat it. Hope to one day have a pour of the OC! Cheers!

Great review David. Never had an Old Carter or a Four Gate before since they are not sold in my region of the country. Whenever I travel if I have seen one the markup is silly for an already expensive bottle. Pay $400 for a bourbon/rye I have never had is not happening. Never had a bourbon I would pay $250 to buy (although GTS I might) The JD SiBBP Rye is $64 out the door and easy find now

Hey Chris! You are absolutely correct! I do not advocate nor push to buy expensive whiskeys as there are some great ones on the shelf at fraction of the cost! (JD BP Rye being one of them now 😆). But just like there is that "special" suit you wear to wedding or shoes or a watch or that special restaurant you go to eat on an anniversary, I now have the Old Carter as my "special" pour for those special days 🤣. My wife doesn't like that, but oh well, I have to choose something as she gets to choose everything else. Always appreciate your support with quick check in on my videos! 역시.. 산님도 올드카터도 좋아하시는군요 크으 👍 올드카터 라이는 맛있긴 하지만... 기대를 너무 해서 그랬는지 살~짝 특별함이 덜해서 최애까지는 아니였어요. 오히려 다른 종류 올드카터들이 ($200~$250) 구매 가치가 있다고 느꼈질 정도로요.

Nice job! Sounds great! Here it’s 300-350:( they have JDSBBP rye at BevMo right now for 70.00 but I’ll take Old Carter any day of the week:)

Hey Nick! Old Carter is an amazing pour but if I had to get one bottle, it would be the American Whiskey or the Bourbon instead of the Rye. Rye is great, but OC AW and Bourbon is special. Great review and comparison as always. I just picked up Old Carter Bourbon batch 16 and ordered a backup bottle of batch 15 that arrives Friday. Really like the OC American Whiskey batches 11 and 12. Have you compared that JD BP Rye with a Frey Ranch Store Pick? Just curious because that Frey Ranch Rye pick you sent is the best Rye I have tasted. 🥃

I was wondering when you were going to review the Old Carter. Sounds like Mark and Sherri have a magic touch . It's unfortunate that with all that magic comes the increased price point. I think you have convinced me to take a dive in to the deep end and pull the trigger on one of their offerings. I was leaning towards a Calumet 16 but now I think why not make my first bottle purchase over $100 an Old Carter. Now ... which one ? Probably depends on which one I see first.... I'm trying to get into rye. I don't care for many of them. It's weird because I drink high rye bourbon. I haven't tried JDSBBP rye but I'm curious. I didn't like the WT Rare Breed rye. Gr8 vid look forward to the next one

Hey Jonathan! WT Rare Breed Rye is an good rye, but the JD Single Barrel Barrel Proof rye, Pikesville Rye, Sagamore Cask Strength Rye, and even the Jack Daniel's Bonded Rye are probably a better introduction to Ryes as they are on the "sweeter" side of rye spectrum. One or all of those should available in your area so if you ever do pick one up and try it, let me know how you like them! If I had to get one expression, it would definitely be the American Whiskey. The bourbon, Kentucky, and Rye are great, but that American whiskey is special with flavors that you don't get from Bourbons or Single Malts (or combination with the best of both worlds). The fruits, smoothing spice, sweetness that melts in your mouth, and the finish of chocolate mocha bitter sweetness that is just wonderful. Maybe I'm overselling it a bit 😆 but I really do love it. For my birthday each year, I'll be buying myself a present of OC American Whiskey instead of a steak dinner due to how good it is 🤣. Always appreciate your support with quick check in on my videos! Hey Peter! I agree! Old Carter is better but JD Barrel Proof Rye was real close. The spice is hotter and much more prominent in the JD, which isn't noticeable alone, but certainly there when I did the OC and JD back to back. I couldnt agree with you more. I actually had a pour of it last night. Had my wife pour me a blind with a willet 4 year rye, a corbin cash 1917 rye, and that jd sbbp rye. It wasn’t even close. The jd rye blew the other two away. Which one do you prefer? The jd sbbp or the jd sbbp rye?

@@peterpete5848 That sucks. Every few months there are a couple of stores around here that will get the jd sbbp rye for $69. The old carter I have only seen once at msrp every other time its marked up to around $250 or so. Even at msrp I will probably pass.

Not better because of the price. I can get JDSBBP RYE for 65 all day. Same with their whiskey so old Carter is a no go. Don’t care how good it is. You do you though.

Hey Scott! I agree the $65 Jack Daniel's Barrel Proof Rye is probably the best value rye in the world and is going to be impossible to beat once you consider price and allocation. Old Carter, for me, as become that "special" bottle for special days (and a review video to boot 😆). Just like some people go to a special restaurant or have the special suit for a wedding, this is my special bottle to have on days that calls for it 😁. Everybody is different but I'll skip out on that expensive steak or lobster and have this bottle with my family and friends on those special days. Unfortunately, I can't have both 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
