    side note for people who dont know, this moves isnt to be remembered, but they trained this moves into their body, so it become habit and do all the moves by reflex only at any given situation. mostly effective at untrained enemy btw, but still its really great to behold. and for trained enemy? it depend on the enemy and the practitioner skill

    good video and a good technique but one comment if you're trying to damage their elbow with that first elbow strike on the entry it's much easier to do this against a committed strike than a jab, because of the speed of the retraction on a good jab, their are people fast enough to catch jabs but many people aren't, for those who aren't fast enough or have good enough timing and this is something you should test for yourself, I think it's easier for most people to deflect a jab (knock it off line) than grab it you can even use the same action he is and instead of trying to strike the arm go with a strike to the jaw using a punch or palm, than you can still follow up with the rest of the technique he's showing because I do think it's a good technique anyways just my opinion :)

    In silat, you need to protect the center line of yourself and prepare for other flow of attack, so with one hard strike it will create the gap. Unless your opponent doesn't know to do anything. In real life scenario, you assume that your opponent will try to use that gap of time to change the pace of your attack. I mean, take a look at Alvin, he looks nerdy and you think you can one punch him.

    Maybe pedantic but this isn't showing jab defense. At best the opponent is throwing a right cross so has different elbow orrientation to a jab. Also none of the opponents initial blows were aimed at the head. With a cross body block like this most people will throw their right to the left of your head.

    That makes it no different from every other martial art. If there was always only one option available, all sports and fighting styles would be very much useless. And if that's the case, why is he teaching a flow? It is highly unlikely to be able to finish that in an alive situation, since every move has a chance of failure, bringing the total probability of the flow's success to maybe 10 %. And when does silat train alive, anyway?

    What do you do if you incapacitate the opponent with the first elbow break when still standing up? Do you continue to break the same elbow two times more and, after breaking the same elbow two times, then hit the opponent with a follow-through head kick? The real question is: how many times you have to break someone's elbow to incapacitate him? This is not trolling, I would really like to know that. An upward nose punch, after deflecting, does all that in 1 second and it's bloody, realy bloody......

  • @armynurseboy

    @armynurseboy

    6 жыл бұрын

    Correct. Combat arts (ie those designed to work on the battlefield) rely on the "overkill principle." If one break is good, 5 breaks are better. If one cut is good 10 cuts is better. Because as you stated, you may not get that first break or it may not take them out of the fight as you were aiming for, so you keep going until you KNOW they are out of the fight. That can get you trouble in a court of law, but again, these arts weren't originally designed for civilian "self defense" but for warfare.

Dia mahir silat dari guru ini 11 tahun sampai mahir, oleh Guru Ma akhirnya dikirim ke Indonesia dan belajar Silek Angin from Pak Rusli, Cimande Silat from Guru Makmur and Minangkabau Silat from Guru Asnan and Pendekar Jumhi.

    I get it from a training point of view. But no one holds the jab out. It's meant as a distance keeper. Or to try to blind the opponent. Two on that sweeping arm movement. It's way to bog of a movement. A straight right cross would hit you before you knew what happened. And in any event, The person who jabs, ducks , and while you swing he unloads a liver shot on you.

    That is why silat is not appropriate for sport mode. Silat has been practiced since 2000 years back. A war against the Siamese, Burmanese, Mongolian, invaders, pirates etc happened all the times and silat proved to be effective weapon (close combat) in warfare. Example; -Mongolian troops was repelled by Majapahit in 13century -Siamese was defeated in many centuries againts Sriwijaya, Malacca, Patani, Kedah empire -gave hard time to Spanish(300 years war against south philippines-Sulu state) and yet Spanish never conquered the southeb part. -gave hard and terrified experience to US troops in Philippines especially in close combat --read Panglima Hassan uprising which forced the US troop to use bigger bullet/ US army never go for close combat against the resistance. Last word, silat is for fight between life and death. Not for sport mode.

    It's a jab though...A jab is a jab. The point of it is that it's pretty hard to see comming. Good luck blocking, let alone catching and doing a take down from a jab.

    Maaan Silat and Kali are nasty. And I find Silat in particular so unintuitive in the sense that, it's effective certainly but how just how did anyone ever come up with stuff like this?

    Its an issue brother. Phylosophy of silat; you are not allowed to show off, must avoid and should run-away in unnecessary fight. Because there will be a heavy casualty if silat is being used in any fight. Attack on eyes, claw on throat, testicle, ribs, joints is not practical nowdays, but it is necessary before - 2000 years back where life is too cheap to someone. Remember this, real silat is for a fight between life and death. It is NOT for sport mode like MMA or boxing.
