Apparently they never saw Texas sized hail.

We just had 5-7cm ice chunks in our recent hail storm, broken cars, broken roofs, broken solar panels all around us... good thing that 2.5cm far exceeds anything that happens in nature...

Feeling a little more at ease, now that we just had our first hailstorm since installing solar panels.

Just a small mistake in the video. The test is done at 23 m/s as was mentioned in the video twice. But the presenter mistakenly mentioned 100 km/h (which is around 28 m/s).

I live in Australia , solar panels can withstand hails to a point but a bigger hail like tennis ball 🎾 size will break and shatter the panels

Absolutely, a quick google of last years hail storms in Queensland and NSW there are many images of hail damaged solar panels, even to the point it is just an empty frame, no solar panel remaining. So the statement in the video that the test exceeds what would happen in nature, is a huge understatement. The hail here can easily penetrate tin roofing and occasionally even roof tiles that are 25-30mm thick, so solar panels made of glass just a few millimetres thick stand no chance. And with the current climate changes, the east coast of Australia just weeks ago saw its first ever tornadoes, and south Australia was hit by golf ball sized hail that is basically unheard of in that part of Australia. Solar will soon become less viable here because the yearly storms will potentially make the replacement of storm damaged panels less cost effective than simply paying for grid power.

Not to mention the chemicals leaching into the ground from the shattered panels. Lead, cadmium. Good stuff for environment! Green! 🤮

If it breaks apart on impact, it is nothing like actual hail. WELCOME TO TEXAS

I find this test very interesting. using slow motion you cannot see a formed ball hitting the panel, just bits, and the remaining ice slush is very minimal compared to purportedly the exact same test done by LG. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXqIpsN6l5ubY8o.html You can clearly see the ice ball in the LG test and heaps more ice slush. What gives?

thank you for taking so much time to analyze this footage, it was filmed with my cell phone in 2017 so you would need to investigate frame rates and camera interlacing of Samsung phones at the time for you to find your answer.

A fair test method should be simulated with a free fall shot put ball with a certain height Hc which can generate 4-5 millimeters dent on a front cover top of a US brand car that is based on the official statistical analysis of Hail damage survey. At the Hc, the critical height, and the same shot put ball should be free fall again to assess the crack on the solar panels. Once a panel can pass that test, it is considered to have a proper hail resistance. Therefore, the suggested test method in this video tends to be a mediocre which can't represent the real hail impact.

Bro, he launched it. Hail can fall from mars, terminal velocity is a thing, and mass and wind resistance are a thing. The hail was accelerated towards the panel, not just “dropped” meaning it replicated the velocity it would likely have achieved falling during storm in that short distance.

Far exceeds what happens in nature? 62.5 mph and golfball size? Haven't travel far huh? I have seen baseball size and I am sure they are going closer to 90mph. When you can dent the ground from the impact.

I'd watch that youtube video! set it up! I want you to compare what it does to a solar panel, a car roof, A dummy's head, and a pumpkin too. Link to all the weather reports of 100 mile an hour baseball sized hail storms too. This is a pretty good start : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_costly_or_deadly_hailstorms

If You make impact panels that absorb energy from the impact of rain, ice and snow, then it makes and stores the energy. Also, is it possble to create a self rocking panel with feathery filaments that impact the rocking panel to make energy. A self supporting energy maker. Only thing is they might need repair or replacement from the filaments impacting them on a regular basis. Just an idea. I invent things. I invented the alternating fish ladder. Gave the idea to PA fish and game and they passed it to their Engineers 2 years later it was in Popular Mechanics. They had indeed used My invention. Hope Your Engineets can come up with so Mum ething from My idea. My reward is always seeing My brain children come to life. Thank You for reading this. Hope I helped alittle.
