To chime in about the network TV stuff, I think that if Supernatural had been on a streaming service like Netflix or HBO Max or whatever (and I've seen this take before), certain relationships would have manifested themselves earlier and would've been fleshed out. Possibly. Mayhaps.

Its unfortunate that he assaulted someone, but in a career like his I think it's important to acknowledge a mistake like that to help everyone move past it so they will focus more on his career than his mistakes (anyone would want that no matter their career) and that shirt is a mugshot from the show, not his actual mugshot so it was a lighter way of bringing it up to move forward. It didnt bother me that it was in this clip.

Well, he was trying to make light of the situation. To show we all make mistakes, he is human, yes he does have young people that look up to him, but he is allowed to make mistakes. He does regret what happened (obviously). The person pressed charges or whatever and now everything is fine, the person is fine.
