J24 Spinnaker practice in 30 knot gusts

Bloody windy and gusty day, good chance to practice hoisting the troublesome Spinnaker and work unfamiliar positions on JFORCE before the state championships. We made lots of mistakes and got our technique pretty much down pat.

J24's are timeless boats. Great fun to sail.

Maddy is Magic. Welcome on my boat anyday. What a legend. Cool as a cucumber.

That’s what you need is a good bowman and Maddy is good.

Isn’t it easier to drop the spinnaker from the other side by pulling on the other sheet while releasing the other one and droping the haylard? it will go behind the jib and the main and directly in the cabin. That way you don’t have to remove the pole before, it can be done after the spinnaker is stowed (the released sheet will slide through the front of the pole as the spinnaker is going inside the boat). And if you have to relaunch the spinnaker on the same side everything is ready, the spinnaker sheet is still in the pole (the pole is down secured on the deck by the other end), the only thing left to do is reattach the pole to the mast and clip the pole upper line (i dont know the exact english word). That’s the way i am used to do it!

this looks fun but very challenging. I've only done Hobie cat kayak sailing. Looks like they are really moving. any idea in Mph?

Companionway closed and hatch boards in please. Otherwise, J/24s are known to capsize and sink in big breeze.

Ahhh, that would be the mellowest 30 knots I've ever seen.... In my world that looks about 10 knots of wind.
