I asked my sister about this. She is a professional seamstress for the Seattle opera, ballet, and the 5th Avenue theater. She said she never even heard of doing this and has never had a problem. I've been sewing for about 45 years and never had a problem from not shrinking it.

Hi Mary, It's true that most interfacing does not shrink... I really wish I had save one of garments that I made with Rayon Interfacing that I did not pre-shrink. One of them was a top that had a facing that finished the neckline and front edges. Instead of pressing it to the wrong side, it was pressed to the right side. After washing it, the entire facing had small puckers from the interfacing shrinking underneath....

Here in Spain you buy interfacing by the yard. No label, and sometimes they will tell you that a fusible interfacing is sew-in interfacing. No idea what the fibre content is, either. Usually the sales people are not very helpful.

We have stores in the USA that have sales people who are not very helpful too... If you're not sure, it's ok to preshrink interfacing even if it doesn't need it. You can also test it on a scrap of fabric before applying it to your garment. :)

When you wrap the interfacing in the towel in which direction is the adhesive facing - on the inside or the outside of the fold?

So sorry I missed your comment...When you roll the interfacing in the towel, I place it glue face down, then roll the towel up... but it really doesn't matter, both sides will be next to the towel as you roll. Thank you for watching!

When you lay the fusible interfacing down on the towel which two sides are facing each other - the fused side or the plain side? Also when you hang the fusible interfacing to dry does it matter which side is out?

So sorry I didn't see your comment until now. When you put it on the towel, it doesn't matter which way you lay it down... When you roll the towel, it will be against the towel on both sides.. When you hang it up, hang it so the glue side is face out... that way the glue won't come in contact with the shower curtain bar. Thanks for watching

Is this technique for woven fusible interfacing only?
