It's not Gould, but I wish I could play it like you. Well done!

Thank you! I love Gould but I do not ever intend to play “like” him (or anyone for that matter!) Must play as you play. With Gould, you get Gould. That works for many things but not Bach! Cheers.

Glad you played it at a more calm temp. Too many idolize Gould even though his version is essentially a jumbled mess. People just like to hear things played "fast."

I disagree... Gould plays it extremely fast, yet incredibly clear. It's just that for some people, it might be hard to hear and follow, the music is complex. It's Godlike to play at his speed - when trying, we mortals are the ones that produce a jumbled mess. But trying highlights the imperfections in our techniques.

@@arman2339 I play the piano and I am quite familiar with listening to polyphony, especially in Bach. A lot of Gould's early playing was "radical" and not so good. His later recording of the Goldberg Variations is pretty good. Also, he was a stupid pianist, so he edited a lot of his playing for recording. Much easier to be "god like" post editing. And yes, Gould did play remarkably clear voicing, however this particular variation was a mess.

But his thrills and interpretation are very Gould, while not so fast 😅 How could you appraise this play while criticizing Gould
