Jambharun:
The beauty of Ratnagiri is like that of a rose...it is enhanced when it blooms. If you venture onto paths that are less frequented, Ratnagiri will reveal its inner beauty to you. There are several spots here which the normal tourist is unaware of. Jambharun is one such place. On the Mumbai-Goa Highway, you will come across the Nivali diversion near Hatkhamba in Ratnagiri. This road leads to Ganpatipule. Approximately 14 kms on this road one path goes to Jambharun.
Nature has emptied its coffers onto this place. The entire area is covered by a thick forest. If you plan a visit in the monsoons, you will be enraptured by mountains on both sides, a raging stream in the valley below, rice fields on both mountain slopes, thick jungles, the incessant sounds of birds, lateritic rocky outcrops and little houses studded in the greenery of mango groves. The stream flows all the way to summer.
The residents have channelized the natural flow of water into their plantations and irrigated them. The Malabar Hornbill that is found here in abundance is an indication that this indeed is a thick forest. Nearby, a set of mysterious carvings in laterite stone can be seen. This little village has a number of temples with exquisite sculptures that prove to be of great value to researchers. The wish to stay here is hard to resist...and for that there is a good arrangement for a home-stay. A visit to Jambharun will certainly be a top-ranking memory for a long time to come.
