    Vented catch can for both valve covers is the way to go on a boosted setup without the PCV.

    Unless it’s a limited used vehicle making big power, no, there are benefits to keeping vacuum on the crank case on a closed loop system. Round about the time the car has enough blow by to push oil into the clean side at a good rate its time to go vented and remove the PCV.

    @sn95_mustang_garage There is no magic number because it depends on the health of the motor and the amount of blow by happening. Both big power and worn rings can allow more blow by and you have to get that pressure out - there will be signs.

    Hey there MLG! I’m curious what oil viscosity oil you run in this engine? I’m curious because I have run 3 different centrifuges on Mustangs in the past and always ran the Factory Recommended Viscosity oil but it seems that the 5,0 Coyote guys want to put oil in that is 2-1/2 times the recommended viscosity so I’m curious what do you run? I do see that the 24 already requires a higher viscosity then the 15-23 which is 5w-20 and the 24 requires 5w-30 so what do you run in your engine? Thanks

  • @MurphysLawGarage

    @MurphysLawGarage

    Whipple requires 5w50 - thats what I run and Ford performance recommends the same on any competition use coyote.

    @@MurphysLawGarage I Love your build! I’m a huge fan of the Whipple 24 Mustang’s out there I’ve commented on your channel in positive ways before! But I would have to ask you did Whipple Build your Engine? And when you say Ford recommends for competition use are you referring to your production factory 5.0 with production 5.0 clearances a competition use engine? Because unless Whipple built your engine I wouldn’t be taking oil viscosity recommendations from them!! Adding a supercharger doesn’t change your engine’s clearances! This is the only platform where people are completely ignoring their engine viscosity requirements and it’s the only platform where oil pump gears are failing! When the oil pressure gets to high for the internal oil pump bypass to bleed off the pressure the gears will fail! It’s your car I get it you will do what you feel is right! But think about it?

  • @MurphysLawGarage

    @MurphysLawGarage

    Ай бұрын

    Whipple worked with Ford to develop these kits, and whipples are used by ford performance. I would assume you trust the ford engineers who designed the motor when 5w50 is recommended. Why is that needed/ok? Its because the blown coyote generates a lot more heat and without increasing the viscosity the oil would thin too much and destroy the bearings. The same goes for competitive use. My car cold idles at ~50psi, so the bypass is sufficient.

    @@MurphysLawGarage you do what you want sir! I support that ! But your own oil cap says 5w-30 adding a supercharger doesn’t change your internal clearances! I’ve run superchargers and turbochargers on cars and never changed the viscosity of the oil! Yes you will get more contaminating of the oil from the fuel enriching that goes on but just change it more often! Oil pump gears isn’t a risk I would take I don’t care what Any Supercharger company says!

    @stevensink5544 I repeat, it was Ford Performance’s requirement for warrantied stage1 and stage2 kits alike. The OPG’s fail because they are brittle sintered metal and the backlash in the gearset allows the gears to slap violently on rev limiter bounces shattering them. Known causality of the failures.

    The coyote does not have an EGR system, the oil separator is on the PCV system. There is no benefit to deleting it, in fact its all cons unless the motor makes a lot of boost.
