    V. Horowitz not only made an extraordinary sound but he also had a fascinating and beautiful finger position while playing. This guy has that same talent. His sound is gorgeous, and the fingers are extraordinary!

    The Shigeru Kawai sounds so beautiful and soft even in fortissimo. The perfect instrument for cantabile and legato. It seems to me more "sensual" than Steinway or Fazioli. What are your thougts about it?

    Torrent and Double Thirds in a same round?? Are you kidding me xDDDD

  • @THATFATNOOB
    @THATFATNOOB2 жыл бұрын

    I've noticed this from looking closely at several competitors' Op. 25 no.6 - when they're playing the rapidly ascending thirds (watch 8:38 at 0.25 speed) they leave out the thumb on some of the consecutive white key notes. Is this standard practice? It would make sense as hitting thumb thumb on B->C and E->F at that speed seems basically impossible

  • @MasmorraAoE

    @MasmorraAoE

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's Chopin's fingering: in some spots, when the lower voice of the third goes from a black key to a white key, you can use your 2nd finger twice in a row by sliding it from the black to the white key without breaking the legato, that way you can avoid having to play the thumb twice in a row. It's an ingenious fingering, don't know if Chopin was the first one to come up with it. And yes, it's pretty much the standard fingering most people use.

  • @azurelleb

    @azurelleb

    @@MasmorraAoE is this what @Frazier A was talking about though? Maybe I misunderstood and didn’t see his fingering clearly (even at 0.25 speed), I thought the fingering there from B to C and E to F at the bottom voice was 1-1?

  • @MasmorraAoE

    @MasmorraAoE

    @@azurelleb Frazier A is definitely saying that this pianist doesn't use the thumb 2x in a row, I haven't actually checked myself I just took his word for it 😅 Anyway, as far as I can tell from seeing other colleagues play this, must of us indeed play these chromatic scales with Chopin's fingering! Edit: Just checked it myself, he definitely uses Chopin's fingering: his thumb only plays the C's and the F's, the 2nd finger plays the B's and E's!

  • @azurelleb

    @azurelleb

    @@MasmorraAoE Oh, I just thought Frazier A meant that he actually didn’t play one of the bottom voice note as he went up. But I could just be reading it wrong. I couldn’t exactly make out what fingering he was using even at 0.25 speed…don’t know how you guys do it!

  • @MasmorraAoE

    @MasmorraAoE

    @@azurelleb Oh my goodness, you are 100% right!! The very first E-G third at the beginning of the scale he does play it with the thumb (and thus plays thumb 2x in a row) but after that he's simply skipping the bottom voice on the H's and E's!! One can tell by looking at the reflection on the key lid, the 2nd finger is up in the air during the E-G and H-D thirds! Really weird for a pianist of this calibre to do this, as I personally don't think it's particularly hard to do what I described above: slide the 2nd finger from the black key to the adjacent white key. Doesn't take anything away from the quality of this rendition obviously! Nice catch!!
