In this video we describe how to install the Dirt Locker® hillside terracing system properly, by placing J hooks at their designated locations. You will get a J hook placement guide with your order and it is important to follow instructions to remain under warranty. Take note, each row ALWAYS gets a J hook on the end on the RIGHT side. You may be tempted to insert the cell tab into the center slot, but that is for the row tab ONLY.
Watch here to find out the best way to anchor your J hooks at the Dirt Locker® intersections, and at the beginning and end of a row. Special considerations: separate your rows if steeper than 36°, or if going around a curve or bend. Each slope is unique and you may come across uneven terrain. If the Dirt lockers® end up not sitting level, or if you notice any tension and pulling being created, it is better to detach that section from the row above and add a J hook instead.

Is it better to use more J hooks to ensure it is extra secure

@dasaadz It depends on your slope angle and Dirt Locker size. The medium size does not require a J hook on every row, where as the large Dirt Lockers on a steep slope over 35° does. You will receive a proper J hook placement guide with your purchase. You can email info@dirtlocker.com for it as well.

What happens if the J hooks corrode away (they could corrode away quickly in the right kind of soil or near the coast)? Will that be an issue with keeping this system in place?

We have not heard of this issue before. We do recommend powder coded rebar for fluctuating water levels like near a creek or lakeside.

The J hooks are metal rebar bent in the shape of a hook. Getting your own rebar bender is an option. Take a look at the specs on our shop page to know the best size to make for your soil type.

Hello and thanks for your question. Only when they are used as tree rings do they not need the Jhooks

You may be on to something here, Why is a smart phone so expensive when it’s just some electronics, a piece of glass and case, why is a cup of coffee so expensive when it’s just a few beans? Why are sneakers so expensive when they are just canvas glued to a piece of rubber.

@@chunhchan No, the iPhone is manufactured for approximately $150, the cup of coffee costs $.070, but it’s the intellectual property, shipping, packaging, and marketing that is expensive. Additionally It actually costs more to use recycled plastic. Our price also includes shipping and packaging. To design, patent, trademark and market a product is expensive. If you don’t believe me, design something, patent, trademark, package, and ship it to your customer. Then tell us how expensive we are.
