Of the 107 Haydn symphonies, I would suggest that: 65 are *absolutely essential* listening 41 are *essential* listening 1 is *required* listening in order to say that you have heard the complete symphonies of Haydn.

I agree! This symphony was a revelation to me. It doesn't get enough press because of its (justly) famous sister work, No. 88 in G Major, but it is thoroughly engaging and entertaining.

Haydn is really the father of the symphony. The elegance and harmony of their compositions are amazing. Viva Haydn and his incredible and incomparable music. The symphonies are true musical masterpieces that provides us moments of unforgettable pleasure. The orchestra interpretation and direction are amazing.

He wasn't, actually. Try the Michael Haydn 18th symphony from 1773, it has far more Mozartian traits than anything in joseph

And Haydn's 82 has far more Beethovenian traits that anything in Wolfgang, and? Actually the father could be Sammartini or someone close to that generation.

@@joseluisperdigon5263 There is no single ‘father of the symphony’; the form emerged from the hands of different composers in different places including as you say Sammartini in Milan, to whom you could add Johann Stamitz, Richter, Holzbauer and Fils in Mannheim, and Wagenseil and Monn in Vienna - there are others as well.

@@elaineblackhurst1509 There's no father of anything in arts. Actually is a methaphor some writers use for different purposes. For me is better to enjoy arts and know well each contribution, than try to make such classifications.

Where is the rest of the usual information? Only two of the four movements are listed and the orchestra is not named, only the conductor
