J-bay 2020 Lockdown waves: Stevo and Kneeon Kneeboards

Спорт

The Corona19 pandemic was a disaster for the world and 2020 is best forgotten - other than the World Kneeboard Champs in NZ! That was a stunner.
The lockdown starved areas that live off tourism. J-bay was empty. No WSL, no surf tourism. No business. Hungry locals.
OH! No outside surfers! The J-bay locals had their waves almost to themselves.
Here Stevo Kneelo, the original J-bay kneelo local, had a new Kneeon Kneeboard and 4-6ft waves to enjoy in August of 2020.
Thanks to Ernst Ohlhoff for the surf videos. You are a star mate! ernst_ohlhoff?i...
Thanks to Troy Wells for the channel graphics. troywells_creat...

Stevo has great energy making his surfing great fun to watch (combined with some explosive turns of coarse)

As you know it is a wave that teases you with a feathering lip 50 to 100m down the line. The urge is to run, run, run. But top riders need to perform, need to find the opportunity (or create the opportunity) to smack the lip. Thanks for the kind comment.

instagram.com/stevokneelo? Contact Stevo and maybe you will get lucky. If you can't have the exact board maybe he can get a copy made for your height and weight from the original shaper - Stevo original art on it!

Whether it's a good option for you or not is something you will have to discover. As you have a problem with your 'pop-ups', practice going from prone to kneeling perhaps on your bed or on a thick soft carpet. And if it works into the kneeling position keep practicing and getting yourself fitter and stronger. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

The key to getting up quickly from prone to kneeling is the muscles in your core. Work on strengthening your core so you can pop up smoothly and quickly. It will also allow you to rotate your upper body with power which is the key to controlled turn.

That is Stevo playing the drums however I don't know who the vocalist is. I'll ask him who she is I'm sure she'll be very happy to hear your compliments. I'm sure you've seen that my channel has a lot of kneeboard surfing in it. As soon as I can get more material I edit and publish. We have some great footage of Stevo on the cutting table. Thanks for your support.

@@kneeboardtorque5971 The first surf film I saw was Crystal Voyager with George Greenough riding a kneeboard and former world champion Nat Young. Greenough could rip on his board which was pretty short as I remember. Watching bodyboarders today I think "Hey, get up on your knees, you'll have so much more control". Anyway, whoever the lady is, in my opinion she has real talent. I'd put her in the same class as Beth Hart. Whether in today's manufactured music culture someone will recognise her I don't know, and maybe she doesn't want that. She can sing and express, that's for sure. Raw talent

If only kneeboard surfing was more popularized.. it's an accessible way to ride waves upright (yet on a board under 8ft) for people with symmetrical riding experience; cyclists, skiers or anyone without time to learn assymetric boardsport skills

The many reasons why people took up the sport was because of the compact size of the board meant that in the water and traveling to and from the beach it was a manageable surf craft. Add security the flippers give you in big waves, when the inevitable lease break happens, I know I want flippers.

He's got great timing and reads the wave very well. Kelly Slater moves his arms around are you going to tell Slater to work on his style.

Ive kneeboarded forever and im always conscience of my arms too, fair comment, knellos are touchy by nature. Truth is, the arms are too long in proportion the legless body, so need to pull them in.
