Izzy was the heart n doul of Guns. The original lineup of gnr is what made them so special and talented. They all gave an important ingredient to the band. They were the last true hard rock band with individual rock stars in it it. That is why when Steven and Izzy left it wasnt the same anymore. They weren't the true special guns n roses anymore

Exactly. Izzy gave them "street cred" of a kind, in that he seemed authentic. He looked like young Keith Richards and played hollow body guitars in the 80s, when everyone was playing neon, sharp, heavy metal looking BC Rich guitars, etc.

I don’t agree . I see what your saying and he absolutely had a major roll but to give him the “credit “ for all the great songs does a diss -service to the rest of the band . Slash has gone on to snake pit , velvet revolver and now the conspirators . There are many many great guitar riffs and songs that he has written in those bands . I mean no disrespect to Izzy , but after he left guns I really wanted to like his solo stuff badly and bought his first CD release the day it came out …unfortunately it fell short for my liking the same as the things that followed . Again no disrespect to him because he had a major roll in guns.

@@philandviki I hear ya brother and I think my phrasing may have sounded like l was saying that Izzy is the only reason Guns had success. I was not saying that. What I meant was that Izzy was the guy that held everything together in the studio. Axl was on one end of the spectrum while Duff and Slash were on the total opposite end and Izzy was in the middle, keeping everything balanced.

I haven’t seen Izzy come out with any hits after guns either . He had a roll in guns and roses for sure . To say he wrote all the great songs is going a little far . Slash has gone on to 3 other bands in which he wrote some seriously great guitar riffs . I haven’t seen anything from Izzy that even comes close . I wanted to really like his stuff but it falls short for me . It seems like Izzy has quit a following and people credit the entire success of guns and roses to him . He was a component of a great band and that band together had many hits but when he left Izzy did not go on to write anymore “hits” himself . I think we all need to give the rest of the band their do as well as credit Slash with a big part of the Riffs that they came up with jointly . I can think of many songs from Velvet Revolver , Snake pit and the conspirators which are really solid guitar rock . I can’t do that with Izzy and the juju hounds etc .

He literally took all the “cool” away with him. If you are completely honest with yourself you’ll understand that historically Axl Rose has rarely sang decent live.

Slash and Duff talked trash about Steven, it didn’t stop there, talked the same trash about Izzy, they soon got there just deserves when Axl conned them both into signing the bands rights over to him, in an interview Izzy said the sound of guns changed with they brought Sorum in, he didn’t take away that sorum was a good drummer, but he didn’t have the natural swing and sound of Steven, he understood why they fired Steven as they were already two yrs behind in releasing illusions albums, Axl was far from a friend of any of them, look what he tried to do or actually did to them, he bangs his band mates girlfriend, he tried to stop Steven from getting music residual from the first few albums, hence the court case, the list goes on.

You have a guy trying to run a business and be profitable and a bunch of drug addicted high school dropouts that he is trying to keep alive. Crappy job. Genius and power hungry Axel fired him after the Use Your Illusion albums were done. He wouldn’t allow their release until they agreed to fire him. The rest of the band wanted him as manager but Axel got his way and the band totally imploded shortly after. Niven kept them together and others couldnt
