IYENGAR HOMESTYLE Breakfast At TKS IYENGAR’s |UNIQUE DISHES! Nuchinna Unde, BaleEle Idli, Hayagreeva

#VegetarianBreakfast #AuthenticBreakfast #GourmetOnTheRoad
TKS Iyengar’s must-visit for authentic Iyengar dishes. Three Generations Family Recipes, Vegetarian, No Garlic, Unique Homestyle Dishes, bale elle idli, thatte idli, classic idli, nuchinna unde, puliyogare, ottu shavige, god halubai, hayagreeva, sweet pongal, bangalore, breakfast
This recent entrant to Bengaluru’s vegetarian dining landscape located in the suburb of Basaveshwaranagar serves up Iyengar homestyle fare. Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna visits this eatery for a late breakfast where he tastes an array of dishes, some hitherto unseen in restaurants, such as the Nuchinna Unde, Halubai, Hayagreeva (originally prepared as a temple offering), Ottu Shavige and more. He also meets the three generations of the TKS Iyengar family that is seeking to share its interesting culinary traditions with the people of Bengaluru though this endearing enterprise. Enjoy!
Bale Elle Idli
The Bale Elle Idli carries with it the subtle aroma of the banana leaf in which it is steamed. The leaf also imbues the idli with a light colouring. You bite into the crunch of coconut and the lentils as you taste the idli, savour it with the sambar that’s perfect in its sour-sweet balance and the spirited chutney. Rs. 30 (usd 0.4) for 2 pcs
9/10
Thatte Idli
A deliciously delicate thatte idli, springy like it should be. Acts as the perfect canvas of sorts to soak up the flavours of the chutney and sambar.
Rs. 30 (usd 0.4) for 2 pcs
8.5/10
Classic Idli
Grainy in texture and porous, but pales in comparison to the bale elle and thatte idli served here.
Rs. 12 (usd 0.2)
7/10
Nuchinna Unde
If you need only one reason to visit TKS Iyengar, these steamed dumplings made of four lentil varieties would be it. A traditional Iyengar recipe wouldn’t use onions, but these are added here due to the wants of running a commercial establishment, which lends it a delightful crunch alongside the lentils. Rs. 30 (usd 0.4) for 2 pcs
10/10
Puliyogare
Cooked and cooled rice, flavoured with spicy tamarind paste and fortified with the crunch of lentils and ground lentils, this is a Iyengar classic with the perfect balance of flavours - touch of sweet that gives into sour and the warmth of the spices. The puliyogare here is made with red rajamudi rice from Hassan.
Rs. 50 (usd 0.7)
9/10
Ottu Shavige
This sweet and ‘khaara’ combo is served with ella pudi (a powder made of sesame seeds, peanuts and jaggery) gasgase (poppy seed) payasa and a nutty, spicy chutney, enlivened with mustard oil and red chillies.
Rs. 60 (usd 0.8)
9/10
Godhi Halubai
Made with puree of wheat, coconut milk and jaggery, this wobbly pudding like dessert magically disappears into sweet ‘nothingness’ when you place a piece in your mouth.
Rs. 10 (usd 0.15)
8/10
Hayagreeva
Taste the creaminess of lentils and the bite of dried coconut and cashew nuts in this decadently sweet dessert that was originally made as an offering to Lord Hayagreeva.
Rs. 50 (usd 0.7)
8.5/10
Sweet Pongal
The whiff of edible camphor that greets you on the palate disappears quickly into the background, leaving you to relish the milky richness of this rice and lentil dessert.
Rs. 50 (usd 0.7)
8/10
Coffee
Nice way to end things after an indulgent meal here.
Rs. 10 (usd 0.15)
7/10

I feel very proud about Iyengars, They r completely assimilated in the Karnataka society completely, Many Iyengars talk Kannada even in home, They have contributed to Karnataka in many ways, starting from BKS Iyengar, the Yoga legend to Masthi Venkatesha Iyengar, the Legend of Karnataka literature who got us one Jnanapitha award and another legend G P Rajaratnam, one of the finest Kannada poet who has written in a poem "even if u send me to hell and cut my tongue, I'll breath Kannada with my nose" ...there are many legends, we r proud of u and undoubtedly u r Kannadigas like us...

You explain the tones, the ingredients and preparation incredibly well, but the way you taste it and explain how your taste buds explode to the thunder of flavor as the food washes past your tongue is what I always look forward to. Your eyes are in sync with the flavor and taste you savor... awesome 👏🏽. Glad to see people taking time to cook things on slow burn and incorporating traditional cooking practices, wholesome ingredients prepared from scratch. I think there was zero processed food or ingredient in anything you ate. I’m so glad not to see plastic, foam plates, plastic spoons and neon signs ....brass plates, banana leaf and watching steam come off the food makes this magical... you are a lucky man !

Every regional food was meant to be local, "Farm to Table", concept, while many foods travel along state lines it is best to eat locally produced and cooked food, this is good for climatic conditions and digests well when in that region. It is simple, clean and affordable. Eat Healthy and stay healthy!

the food looks yummilicious am sure it tastes too.. kudos to the family who have started this beautiful venture..👍🏻 wish more Indians come up with native cuisines.. not just adults even children will start enjoying our recipes which is sorely missing in today's generation who swear by fast food/junk food chains🤦‍♀️.. spl mention for the lovely narration.. 🤤 worthy dishes!!

@@binnymartin1455 respected sir, in India we don't use gloves, but we clean our hands thoroughly before cooking and eating. If you wear plastic gloves and touch hot Tiffanys then I think that is much more harm to our body and yuck! I don't want to eat plastic 🙏

@@manasaraocta you are right, as part of saving water they don't wash hands properly, in fact they use tissue papers for most washable places to wash with water, however they pour buckets of water for washing their pets and cars.

Quite mouth watering ! Out of all these dishes, the ones that relate the most to Iyengar cuisine are Puliyogare and Sakkara Pongal. The rest ( Tatte Idly, Nucchina unde, Hayagreeva, Nippattu, Haalubai, Baale ele Idly / Kadubu ) are typical Karnataka specialties ( not the trademark Iyengar dishes ) !
