Support The Deep Track: / thedeeptrack
We take a closer look at what sets the new IWC Ingenieur apart from its inspiration, the 1976 Gerald Genta designed SL. The DNA is there, but the execution provides a modern foundation for IWC to build on. Will it work? Head over to The Deep Track for the full story: thedeeptrack.com/video-review...

I went to IWC boutique last week for the service of my watch. A black Ingenieur was displayed there. The real item looks spectacular and is on a different level from other series (e.g. Mark XX), really can't judge this watch from photo.

I like IWC. I would just purchase every color of the CW The 12 instead of this though.

These are REALLY good, especially in Aqua. I still have trouble with the price, but can't quite articulate why. I feel like I'd be more excited by it at the say $9,500-$10K mark. Would I like to see a quick adjust clasp, which IWC famously executes so well? Sure, but there is something to be said for the elegance of a butterfly clasp and I recall this one being really easy to use when I tried it.

I'm with you on the bracelet, and the price. In the article I point out the price of the prior 3239 reference would be $8,670 when adjusted for inflation. The 3289 certainly feels more premium, so I think you've nailed the ideal price bracket here. All of it is a bit tough to justify, of course, with good arguments on both sides. I do hope it finds its market, though - I'd love to see them continue to evolve the collection.

I got my IWC black Ingeniuer late last year after a month waiting once I inquired for it. I initially had my hesitations when it was announced, but I actually got to try to see them in person and to try on the black, white, and aqua. I enjoy it but I had to see them in person to make my final decision

Can you explain why you preferred the black over the aqua teal dial?

@@gmshadowtraders This was for my 35th birthday and I intend to keep it forever so considering that fact I went with black. It was sleeker and more classic - to me. The teal just didn’t sit well with me - a more intended hype color. I don’t think I would keep it for a really long time and get tired of the color eventually. If however they instead had an IWC blue, I would have been all over it. I have a collection of blue dial watches.

It's not the bracelet that justifies the price. IWC bracelet's have always been incredible and equally the best in the business. If it were the bracelet justifying the price, my older Ingenieur and Mark would be worth 40% more than they are.

I received mine yesterday in aqua blue. It is absolutely stunning and I couldn’t be happier. As for the price. For me, worth every penny. The silver I thought was also equally as stunning. A big shout out to the girls at the IWC boutique in Leeds who knew there inventory inside out and provided a truly amazing experience for my wife and myself

@@TheDeepTrack I am very picky and where I live it’s quite hot outside and cool inside so this also plays a role 😂. But I love the watch. It looks amazing. Genta is (was) a master 🙏🏻

I think this is unfortunate timing by IWC. Watch market overall is deflating, with Nautilus and Royal Oak crashing in value relatively. Couple that with 11k price tag, I fear this technically sound and well finished watch will again not gain traction, with so many other integrated bracelets out there. (get the same feel from a prx, or just buy the real deal. A lot of money to have to constantly explain it is a Jenta design, but one that never caught on)

I really like your presentation and you have a good eye and I really like this watch, I'm going to subscribe. A little constructive criticism though, in common with most USA youtubers your pronounciation of foreign language names is poor, Ingenieur is pronounced an jen yur not on jen yur. You may think this is picky but the rest of the world probably doesn't. I look forward to more of your posts.

For some people these will either be too loose or too tight. Putting that micro clasp on ruined the entire watch and might as well get a mark... IWC messed up royally with this model since it alienated a ton of people due to fit. What they need is a link that's in between a full size and half size

not even remotely worth 11k and will eventually fall below retail on the grey market. the mark20 is such a better option

  • @bdegrds

Mark 20 sell below retail on secondary market as well, who cares. Watch collecting is a hobby and hobbies by nature are money pits. It's about passion and enjoyment and if the hobby makes you happy. Watches are not investments or a store of value. 99.9% of them lose value.

Pretty for sure, but comically overpriced by any measure-especially with that unregulated, unreliable Beaumatic movement with the jumpy minute hand powering it. I feel like anyone reviewing this watch should start with “is this worth $12k” and evaluate every aspect of it against what else exists at that price and below. The CW Twelve has a better movement, is also based on a Genta design (if that matters), has finishing that stands up to macro-lens scrutiny, and costs 10% of the IWC.
