This guy, Zlatan, is more talented than i thought. Broda shaggi also. Shaggi pulled off quite a sophisticated piece of acting there. He managed to convey three strands of Nigerian social reality: (no 1) pressure placed on Nigerian males to be strong and dignified,(no 2) peer pressures on poor men to react against wealth, which is often expressed as having to be rude to authority. Often, however authority is mistakenly interwoven with good manners, which are traditional Nigerian values. As Fela put it, (‘I no be gentle man at-all-at-all). I guess the misunderstanding arises from the fact that wealthy people are often cultured in behaviour. Finally, (no 3) the Nigerian aspirational value, exemplified at its simplest as material acquisition. So you first see Broda shaggi happy at seeing an old friend now wealthy who shaggi knows will help him out financially, but when the owner of the fashion store goes over to assist Shaggy, Shaggy takes the way the store owner looks at him as judgmental. Shaggy knows he was not guarded enough in his happiness as Nigerian men are pressured to be. Shaggy was acting too happy and not with the required decorum. Yet, Shaggy who is poor, is meant to be rebellious (expressed in rudeness) against the system of wealth inequality. So we see him at once cowed and yet trying to kick against being cowed. We see him at once being respectful as Nigerians are brought up to be yet fighting against this because as a poor street person he is not meant to be gentle man at-all-at-all.
