I was going to say how gorgeous Olivia was when she was young, but I just saw current photo of her at 72, and she is still so beautiful!

Is putting on the veil after seeing Ivanhoe one last time suppose to be symbolic? As in Rebecca showing her face to the love of her life one last time.

I feel for Rebecca so much. I've often been in that situation where they don't reciprocate or they can't reciprocate and so you end up physically running away because you know that if you stay and you look them in the face, the tears that you are fighting back will break like a dam and you will be a howling broken mess in front of everyone.

I am absolutely blown away See, my mom would mute this scene because she didnt like what was said. This is the first time I've ever heard what the narrator said. She does the same for half of the 101 dalmatians cartoon whenever cruella de vil insults anyone.

It's a masterpiece except a couple of 80's cheeze moments, excelent actors and Olivia is spot on as Rebecca. Very good music, enviroment and clothing. Lame action but the tornament is great.

Grew up with this movie ^^ .. but there is one thing I never understood... throughout the entire film, no one ever calls Ivanhoe by his first name, namely Wilfred; he is Wilfred OF Ivanhoe. Doesn't that strike anyone else as odd? It's the same thing as adressing Cedric as "Rotherwood" or Robin as "Locksley" the entire time.

Actually that was common in Medieval (even somewhat in modern) Europe: to call someone by the the name of their land. You'd call the King of France "France"- you'd call the Earl of Leicester "Leicester", etc. Lord Dunsany & Alfred, Lord Tennyson were not these famous writers' names, but again, their lands'. The Princes of England are still referred to in the manner: the Duke of York is often just Duke York or only "York."

If Rebecca and Ivanhoe was never meant to be together, then wouldn't be smarter to tone down their scenes together rather then the opposite ?

Ivanhoe spents most of the novel recovering from wounds, his opponent in the duel lets him win, and he marries the wrong woman...not the most heroic hero in literature for me...

@@kokohero I am not the biggest fan of Brian (lol) but I feel sorry for him in this scene. The dude is in a lose-lose situation. If he kill Ivanhoe, Rebecca will be burned at the stake. But I guess this is him facing the consequences of his actions.

Maybe they shouldn't have given more time to Ivanhoe and Rebecca if they want to sell this story of Rowena and Ivanhoe ending up together.

Yeah. To me this one is a weird change they did in this movie adaptation. Rebecca's love is unrequited in the book. Also, Ivanhoe and Rebecca as a couple can't and won't work not only because of their races and religion but also because they have different personal beliefs, worldviews, priorities, ideals, etc. In short, they're just not compatible.

If you've seen the Robert Taylor version (from the 1950s) with a breathtakingly gorgeous, beyond beautiful, Elizabeth Taylor as Rebecca, you would never accept that Ivanhoe doesn't run off with her. Joan Fontaine plays Rowena, but she just can't compete with Elizabeth in that version of "Ivanhoe."

This last scene does not exist in the novel, Rebecca speaks to Rowena about her thankfulness to Ivanhoe, later Rowena tells Ivanhoe about it. This movie is much better than the novel. The last fight between Ivanhoe an Giulbert is a lot less intense, the fight is over in a few seconds in the novel.

In the novel there was no romance between those two except that Rebecca felt attraction but ignoring it. Ivanhoe respects her because she is helping him nothing more.
