+The God It's very normal for competitive professionals in sports or games to be very emotional after winning or losing, especially if it's a deciding game. It's what separates the good players from the great players usually, the greats always get especially upset at themselves for losing in particular, makes them strive to blunder less the next time around.

+Jack Carter The thing is that at this level, you need to be good or be lucky all the freaking time. And I'm not sure that mistakes made by the opponent count as luck, unless they are provoked by unrelated things like the weather. Anand didn't won by luck, it was Ivanchuk that lost by blunder.

I have always thought the same thing. As a spectator, your mind is more relaxed. As a player, sometimes the "heat of battle" or the intensity of concentration working towards a particular goal, whether offensive or defensive, can cause a player to not notice that which is obvious to the spectator, who is watching with no threat of loss.

Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo failing to score from 1m away while the goalkeeper is not in the goal
I know the answer why he didn't find the check mate, its because his name is Ivanchuk not *Ivancheck*

Maybe he was hearing what those idiot commentators were saying.
Anand teleported away from the table lol. He knew he didn't deserve that victory and was probably mad at himself for getting in such a position to begin with.
hahahaha, this is the most exciting live chess game ever! And they say chess is not a sport.

John Smith It's not. It requires more use of the brain. Sorry
The game was good..but what made it more exciting was the commentary. It actually caught the pace of the game and left the adreline pumping :-)
most exciting blitz game ever seen! thnx to commentators!
imagine his feelings when he types his name into youtube and the first suggestion is "ivanchuk missed mate in one
What a game! And the commentary is superb (Daniel King and Maurice Ashley)!
In one of Viktor Korchnoi's books where he analyzes his best wins, there was a game where he missed a mate in 1 and didn't even comment on it.
Are there more games on youtube with these commentators? They make the game so exciting and funny to watch!!

PsDani Strongly agreed, they have a great dynamic and very exciting commentary that's also informative. They made every moment of this game so exciting, I'd also like to see more of them if anyone know.

I believe it was these commentators, or at least one of them was the same, who commentated on the game where Anand spent almost two minutes on move four in a blitz game. Never been so excited to watch two people do nothing for two minutes

One of the commentators is GM Maurice Ashely, not sure the man the english accent.
Ivanchuk - cris everi tym...
I don't think these guys get many mating chances.

even if they find a girl who is into chess they would probably just play chess all the time.
The commentary was just awesome. They made the game so exciting.
This video is always insane every time I watch it. This will haunt Ivanchuk until he dies
This is literally the most exciting commentary ive ever heard
My God..,! What a great pressure you guys are dealing with in every game.. Thats what makes you a true grandmaster.. very thrilling game!..
I watched this video because I liked the commentary.
More than playing, I love watching these grandmasters..
Great commentary!! Awesome game!
Down goes Frazier... down goes Frazier... oh sorry I got caught up with these commentators. Damn they were good.
Thoses commenting guys are actually better than some football ones.
Its really UNBELIEVABLE not to see the mate move
Anand was so relieved lol I could just imagine
Chucky, always a lovable & enjoyable player to follow!!! :)
Terrific video. Thanks for the post man
so painful to see that
Insane. The commentary is insane too. That Will haunt him for the rest of his life
(7:39) Haha nice to see I'm not the only one to miss moves like this. Wow a GM missing an easy mate in 1.
That checkmate !
The commentary is amazing!!!! "Why can't he just take the.... the rook..... in.... the corner....are we missing something?" Pure magic.
From what I SAW on KZread, Anand is a pretty lucky guy.

Your opponent messing up is literally the only thing that could be called luck in chess.
Ivanchuk face palmed himself through the floor afterwards, never to be seen again.
Thanks for posting this, I'll never feel bad whenever I miss a mate, lol. Seriously, Ivanchuck must have been ill after the game when someone showed him what he missed.
I want more videos with these guys announcing. By far the most exciting chess announcers ever.
Superb stuff. Loved it. :-)
that was incredible.
This video is in my all time top 5
This is definitely one of the best videos on the entire KZread. I would like to see chess promoted and be shown on TV, but I know that it will not happen considering the average person nowadays.
See what tense moments can do to our brains, so stay calm kids..
Still exciting 5 years later haha. Feel so bad for Ivanchuk
I have always thought the same thing. As a spectator, your mind is more relaxed. As a player, sometimes the "heat of battle" or the intensity of concentration working towards a particular goal, whether offensive or defensive, can cause a player to not notice that which is obvious to the spectator, who is watching with no threat of loss.
hahhaha you made my day!!! thanks
These commentators kick ass
HI IVANCHUK .....really nice to meet u in youtube ...
Both are man of sense.
I enjoy the game description, the commentators are great. Most chess game videos lack a constant above view of the board. Bottom screen vignette and annotation and it would be perfect. :-)
it felt that I was seeing the match between barcelona and real madrid .wow great commentary.that called crumbling under the time pressure.a grandmaster of Ivanchuk's class missed a simple checkmate like that. anand was surely very lucky
What a thriller!
maurice ashley and daniel king best commentary duo!
I love the commentators lol :) they make chess so exciting!
Everybody makes mistakes from time to time. Even chess grandmasters do

Andreas Hoppe Ivanchuk can miss mate in one and still beat Carlsen and Kramnik in the last two rounds of the 2013 Candidates. An enigma for sure.
I love the commentators so much...I was pretty stoned and watched this.....it was awesome! like a real sick battle... all those people who call them retards or stupid... bless your soul!
Fantastic finish :)
That was insane!
Anand used his indian mind control powers! D:
"Ivanchuck losing control, checking randomly!" ... ouch
These are the best commentators ever!
I never get tired of watching this. The commentary is amazing.
WOW GREAT GAME...THAT COMMENTARY THOUGH...Y COMMENTATORS ARE NOT EXCITING THESE DAYS??
What a fun game to watch, tactically. The missed mate is just one piece of this great game. My hat's off to both of them for having all sorts of tactical genius all game. Let's not discredit the incredible Ivanchuk for his mistake.
The commentary makes this entire video haha. Its unfathomable how a Super GM can possibly miss a mate in 1
We need more commentators like these
Incredible... and it's great that this kind of things happen to the GM too. Is a reminder that they are human, haha.
A very exciting game!!!
this game made my heart beat really fast
I can totally relate to the [ill shake your hand but really I want to throw this fucking board into next week] response at the end there
or he's just human. can you imagine the pressure? that much pressure can get to anyone.
Damn no wonder I failed all my finals in college pulling all nighters. lol
Top Class
Even the best in the world can miss things like this, albeit it very rarely. Kramnik allowed a mate in one to be played against him once, and in a standard time control game, so it can happen.
anand's eyebrows were avangard of itself in that time.
Sometimes when your in the game zone the pressure is very different than regular ones.
Good!!!
Unbelievable that he missed that mate.
Ivanchuk is a class act here, but it's agonizing to see the mate dangling out there going untaken.
I don't get Chess at all, but I've got to admit this was pretty damn entertaining.
I was surprised no one else said this, but he had an opportunity to win like 3 or 4 different times there. Even ignoring the opportunities he missed under time constraints, he was 2 moves out from mate in either direction at 7:22, if he had taken pawn with queen.
I feel so sorry for him!
interesting, thank you for the nugget of info.
Great commentating. Anand went on to become world champion. Never heard from Ivanchuk again.

Those commentators are just awesome xD
