I lived in Turkey for 2 years, in the city of Izmir, named Smyrna during Paul's time. In that city was one of the 7 churches in Revelation. I went to the Isle of Patmos to the cave where John saw the vision of Christ. On the wall was a painting of John lying on his back looking up at Christ, who was surrounded by angels, everyone was black. As a Catholic, I am pleased the priests did not backdown nor did they shy away, yet I am displeased that they did not carry the scriptures with them but decided to show up with a portrait of the Divine Mercy image as revealed to St. Faustina. The Catholic Church herself does not hold a dogma or doctrine on the skin color of Jesus Christ. There is credit due to what the IUIC is doing in urban and ethnic communities where the missionaries of the Church once used to anchor love, faith, and charity. I pray that all come to Christ through his bride the Church, to partake in the Sacraments He has left us with to continuously be in a state of grace with Him.
