my respect for ryujin went up ever since we saw her associating the fact that yes: being slim or having good aesthetics is part of the job, but she won’t allow it to stress her out or take her over with the beauty standards set by someone else. i think it’s a very empowering statement, while still being very honest about the work that she and other idols do.

I agree. There are jobs that requires maintain an astheatically pleasing thin body/face (performers, dancers, idols etc.)and anyone who goes for that type of job needs to accept this instead of whining. I'm majoring in theater dance and i got told i need to lose at least 8 kg (5'7"/60 kg currently) to be accaptable, but i'm not complaining, i choose this, it's part of the job just like being flexible, strong etc. I like the way she thinks about this, very admirable.

@@valentinaespinosa7894 i disagree, 52kg for her height is a perfectly healthy weight. You have to realise that what you lose when going down to that weight is purely non-essential bodyfat, so there really is no health detriment to it. Also because of the high level of activity (thus calorie expendature) that comes with being a dancer one really doesn't have to starve oneself to maintain such a weight.

I just find it so weird how most of the times idols who are not hated for their fuller figures, just tend to have more aesthetically attractive body types. Even if u look at how it was years it ago, the only accepted fuller body type was the Honey Thighs with slim waist. I like that we are slowly getting more accepting of normal weights in kpop but it’s clear when it’s “acceptable” and when it’s not. It’s still all’s bout aesthetics.

Here's my gripe, skinny to a point where they look sick or healthy to a point where they have curves nobody is satisfied and they'll still bash specifically the FEMALE idols to a point where it's bullying or harassment. Lia actually sparked a discussion as she seemed scarily thin, and I won't forget how much she was bullied for her looks. I seriously don't understand how they want them to eat a leaf of lettuce and do hard dances, or have packed schedules. That's torturous, mind you some idols have in the pass confessed to developing EDs because of the restrictive diets. Lastly, we've lost enough idols due to the S word and a lot of them have mental health problems of some sort. How hard is it to be kind??!

I agree and it's such a shame how society - especially the one they live in - still struggle to come to an understanding of how dangerous it can get if pushed too far. I feel like Kpop has changed a whole lot in the past few years and there has been some improvement when it comes to body image, however, I'm not saying it still isn't an issue. I do think this new generation of Kpop idols will bring so much more improvement than there has been all these years and hopefully more will grow to become confident and accepting 🥺

you don't have to have ''good body proportions'' to look good and strong. Good body proportions is just another excuse for bodyshame people, meanwhile you can definitely find celebrities or just average people with what media calls ''imperfections'' and realize their bodies are gorgeous. Also skinny doesn't always equal good proportions, sometimes it can make you look worse (of course it doesn't apply to everyone). As long as you build healthy eating habits and enjoyable exercise routine your body will turn into its best form. Ryujin's body isn't the only beautiful body out there so learn to accept your body the way it is, it's still beautiful as it is :) (and it comes from someone who struggled with ED and hated my body)

    3 жыл бұрын

@Offler The Crocodile God A set point actually isn't a fact but a theory, and even in that ''set point'' theory, they still say you can change it. The claim of people always gaining the weight back also is not correct, as articles even in 1999 have disproven this. The studies that people use to proof this supposed thing, are also usually not even actual weightloss studies in the first place. In fact in 1999 there already were articles talking about this weird claim going around of everyone gaining all weight back and it being impossible to lose weight, and it turns out they 1. couldn't find the source of this rumour, it's all just made up and 2. They could easily find huge groups of ex-obese people who dieted on their own and had kept the weight of for years to come, and the few people they met who had gained it back were people who went to weightloss clinics and were FORCED to be on diets and didn't do it out of their own choice. Next to that, one already knows that crash diets will not works, and a diet is just the way you eat, and not every diet is a crash diet. If someone changes their diet slowly and their lifestyle, they can easily keep the weight off, however sadly enough people go around and spread severe misinformation that its impossible to keep weight down, and that everyone has a set point that can't change, or that you have to starve at 1200 calories even when you usually eat 3000+ and that will ruin your metabolism. The only thing that is proven is that crash diets will ruin your metabolism, not that diets in general aren't sustainable. If you want more proof about the misinformation that people nowadays, especially from the fat acceptance movement use to say its impossible to lose weight like the 1999 article, check out ''Obesetobeast'' his video called ''Debunking the lies on tiktok about weightloss (with proof)'', and unlike the tiktok video he actually shows the articles and proof fully so you can read along.

Check out Natacha Oceane! She has a video called ''why your diet isnt working, science explained'' and another ''how i get lean on 2500+ cals''. Both show scientific sources on weightloss, metabolism etc. And she herself went from eating 1400 kcals whilst running marathons just to stay in a calorie deficit, to not eating more then the average woman and being leaner then ever, all because she started learning about the important of muscle mass and the impact of that on metabolism! I myself am only 4'11, so my TDEE is 1450 kcals, so if I wanted a deficit of 500 kcals I'd have to eating 950 kcals a day just to lose weight, which would keep going down eevrytime I'd lose more weight, which sadly leads to many people struggling to lose more weight, starving themselves, gaining it back and then also having ruined their metabolism. She also talks a lot about intuitive eating which has helped me with my binge ED and overall her channel is really good if you wanna learn about weightloss thats sustainable, no crash diets, and actually helps you understand why you might be struggling to lose weight or get lean or look as strong as you want! I wish more women knew about this, as it explains the struggles of many women especially really well and could be fixed if weight lifting would also be normalized for women :( You don't turn into hulk, and its really important for peoples metabolisms.

People generally like to see the idol who has "strong" impression to also have a body that matches it. Ryujin is an exceptional badass dancer and girl crush so people will keep on liking her even when she gained muscles, as long as it's still in shape. I’m telling you Ryujin is one of the most genuine, positive, and mature kpop idol (rookie) to ever exist. She has this quiet confidence since debut, where she seems so comfortable with where she is in life. She never craves more screen time than others, doesn’t exaggerate her actions just to look “cute”. Probably one of the most inspirational and healthy idols for the younger generations to look up to. Her self assurance and confidence is quite admirable.

This idol has something in her character i can't explain. Her character and talent is addicting. She's authentic and original. She's has this trend setter ideal in her. She's magnetic, she can catch your attention. I've never been a fan of kpop before no matter how much my kpop friends tried to persuade me, but when i saw ryujin performing wannabe with her blue hair and healthy thighs, I immediately got hooked. This is what I'm looking for an idol. She doesn't conform to the girlie idols, she has her own popping and locking style which makes her standout because she's unique. Her personality is also authentic, her humor, bluntness, and warmth deep inside is very attractive. She performs without craving for too much attention, she looks very chill and herself. When she performs it's so satisfying to watch cause every move seems so effortless and smooth. She will make it big to the industry. She deserves all the recognition, she's the powerful bullet JYP can pull.

Especially underage idols, it's insane how much hate they get on their bodies when they're litteral children still growing up. Gaining weight and losing weight is part of growing up.

Ryujin is dead on when she talks about performance and appearance. I see idols as almost professional athletes in terms of ability, workload and entertainment value. Most athletes both men and women look amazing and are very fit, because if they weren’t they wouldn’t perform as well. She wants to perform her best and we love cheering on great performance. And a natural consequence to this is that she looks absolutely amazing.

Ryujin was thin her debut and her face looked sharper. However, as she gained weight, her face and cheeks became fuller and she looks more beautiful.
