The 5th of February 1992 was a Wednesday , So i'm guessing that both the 6th and the 7th of February was when TSW admitted defeat , I'm sure that TSW cover the story and did a full report on TSW admitting defeat where the final appeal to the house of lords was rejected . I'm sure their was sadness in the newsroom at TSW when that story broke to then

In the end did TSW really lose much seeing that there's no news out of the South West but from Bristol and really the region doesn't exist anymore.

TSW did overbid but so did HTV, YTV and Tyne Tees. Harshly treated in my opinion.

But in the end with the exception of Central, STV, most of those companies went back to the ITC / Ofcom asking for reductions to those bids.

TSW were treated badly by a greedy ITC.

The ITC wasn't greedy. It was merely implementing the rules set by the Broadcasting Act. Also, TSW's bid was out of touch with reality. Many other bidders did a lot of research into who was bidding against them and how much. In this regard TSW were incredibly complacent, when that was actually the main thing which needed to be done.

@@MatgoStyles TSW thought apparently that Westcountry had bid £13m. TSW's bid was £14,591,000 (14/5/91 being the date) then translated in to 1993 prices which was £16.1m.

They should have won really, but I guess at the time that the ITC-who had by then replaced the old IBA-felt it was time for a change. So they TSW, a long with TVS, Thames, TV-am, and Oracle were ended alas. But of course, their replacements Westcountry, Meridian, Carlton, GMTV, and Teletext, were not really a patch on the old ones really somehow. A shame really for sure! Thank you of course!

And of course too as we know, it was really all a result of the Broadcasting Act 1990 at the time I guess. Oh well!

Of course at the time, I know all the other ITV companies did indeed win their franchises, such as LWT in London and that. But of course too, it lead to Carlton and Granada merging in 2002 to create the ITV structure that it is now then somehow.
