One thing I loved most though, was how Haydens character wasn't just "pretty blonde mean girl" cliche. She had a character, and I wish Disney did more of this. Yes, she's not that "nice" as the "not like other girls brunette" but she wasn't comically malicious as any other disney mean girl. And her monologue, it's so realistic and that's one of the best parts of the movie, is that it is realistic.

ICONICCCCC!! The soundtrack was my freaking Jam and the movie literally makes me cry til this day!!! I really don't know why tho 😭

Apparently most of the skating was actually done by them, Michelle tratchenburg did ballet and took skating lessons for 10 months for the movie. Stunt doubles were only used mainly for the more difficult tricks that you can’t learn in a short period of time

Yes, Michelle did all of her own skating, including the jumps. She was a really good figure skater when she was younger, though I don't think she's kept up with it.

GEN SUPREMECY!!!!! Genuinely love how she could so easily have been a stereotypical mean girl villain but instead they gave her depth and made her a super loyal and supportive friend!!

I think the “I’m not giving up on my dream, I’m giving up on yours” scene has been in engraved in my brain ever since I watched this movie as child. Iconic.

this type of "mean girl trope" needs to be used more. Like everyone who grew up watching movies like this were able to relate to multiple characters not just the quirky im not like other girls main character thats created so many negative stereotypes towards the way we view other woman. Theres not just the mean bitchy girl and the smart, I dont wear makeup type of girls

i watched this movie once when at was about 3 years old at my babysitters house while she was braiding my hair and the only thing I remember about the movie is the scene where she wore the new skates for a competition and they like messed up her feet and I think her feet were bleeding or something. all this to say I was traumatized and had a fear of ice skating for a while and I still think of that scene to this day

ok but this movie raised me as a child, i found it when i was like 7 and my 7 year old self was “ice skating” with socks on the kitchen floor while watching this movie all through winter 😩🤚

The moment when Tina says she needs new boots reminded me of buying thousand dollar custom fit skates back when I competed 😩😭

Michelle actually did the majority of the skating jumps and tricks, minus the triple and double axels and sowl cows.

according to the production section on wikipedia, hayden and michelle both did their own skating (hayden did all of hers and some complex moves had a double for michelle) and trevor blumas (teddy) learned how to actually drive a zamboni!

You can easily mistake it for a Disney Channel Original Movie due to it being squeaky clean

this movie was iconic! my childhood ahhh

Figure skater/coach here- I’ve skated all my life and I’ve always loved this movie. It’s not the most realistic in portraying the actual skating world (that testing scene and that beginner LTS class are both complete garbage lol), but I love the characters so much. The variety between Gen and Nikki and Casey, and even Zoe is fantastic. I love that they mostly casted actual skaters. Zoe, Nikki, and Tiffany are all played by skaters, and Hayden and Michelle both took months worth of lessons before shooting. Realistically does ten months get you to the level their characters are? Nope. But it does get you the ease needed to move through basic scenes as if you are. I haven’t seen that level of commitment to the skating side of stuff in a mainstream movie since, including I Tonya (which made no attempt to hide the stunt skater’s different brand of skates lol)

THE SOUNDTRACK TO THIS MOVIE IS EVERYTHING. I HAVE THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK ON MY THROWBACK PLAYLIST ON SPOTIFY. THE WHOLE INTRO SONG IS IN MY PERSONAL OPINION ONE OF THE BEST ALY & AJ SONGS. I'M SORRY I'M SCREAMING BUT I LITERALLY WATCH THIS MOVIE AT 5 TIMES A YEAR. IT'S EVERYTHING
