I have been watching DAN since he was the gardener at la Lande. He is my most favorite and Nick the tree guy is my next favorite. Love you guys !

Le beau temps! Great news!! Dan’s respectful and courteous manner of dealing with subscriber concerns is amazing. He simply shared, for example, how the footings were on bedrock, showed how he has been pinning the blocks to the walls and explained that this wall will be rendered. Hopefully by now people should know that he knows what he's doing and if he runs into problems he'll work it out with engineers, architects and those around him. The last place he should be taking building advice from is the comment section on YT. It's France they have their own building codes.

Concrete isn't as eco friendly as wooden or lime plastered straw bale houses, it's true. Those are for new builds. In solid structures undergoing restoration like this it's appropriate, given its life expectancy. There's plenty of Roman concrete still around alongside stone in their ruins. Given that long-term view, especially in hidden supports like this new wall, a good balance can be found.

Exactly! If it wasn't for Dan taking this on, and him and his team working so hard, this building would have rotted away as i doubt anyone else would take on such a challenge.

Another milestone reached, time for floors! A minor suggestion; double wheel wheelbarrows are much easier and more stable for moving heavy stuff like buckets full of mortar, stone, steel etc.

This channel is a rare social media find - a completely upbeat and uplifting presentation. Restoring a crumbling ruin is a huge undertaking. That you find time to film and (masterfully) edit the progress on an almost daily basis is super impressive. @@thegravytrain1129 To answer your question as it is: That part of the house is bigger than the other wings and there was previously a wall there which provided support for the floor above. He knocked it down and has now restored it. To the second part: I am pretty sure Dan was mocking the person who resided in the American White House prior to the president currently living there. I was simply repeating that to let Dan know that I liked his joke! That's the way that person constantly referred to things; bigger, grander, better than ever. That's all. Oh, and I could be wrong... I have a friend who bought an old leaky building in Washington State on an island. No one wanted it. He got it and went to work. Saving a 1920's old wooden building. I was up there twice helping him with the more complex structural aspects. Now it is two units. It is so rewarding. Once you plaster the chateau you will really feel a difference. So happy for you and your project. Enjoy!
