    Enjoyable video! Markets are always fun and interesting, and in this case, full of delicious, locally grown produce! In the US, most produce for sale in supermarkets is from far away (as you mentioned), and this means that it (1) cannot be picked at the time of perfect ripeness, and (2) varieties are chosen for their ability to survive shipping long distances, and not for taste. Even basic, simple dishes taste so much better in Italy for this reason (and are more nutritious). Thank you for the video! Hope your prickly pear cactus seed experiment is successful!!!!

    Thank you so much for sharing. With this type of market it’s so easy to have and make a fresh meal daily. 🤞 with the prickly pear. Time is on our side 😀

    Thank you for watching and your feedback. We still have a bit of renovation to do. Now that the house is stable, we are going to take our time. It’s a little difficult because we cannot be there full time yet. Everything is safe and habitable. Little by little. It piano piano as they say. Our next project is the bathroom though. Stay tuned 😀

    Sorry to hear that. Life’s not as full of the the same pressures that we have in the US. The snow was just a reminder to enjoy a day of rest and visit nearby friends. Any towns you thought of? I can’t think of a wrong choice in Italy… especially in Abruzzo.

    I think that Abruzzo is a little bit too cold then Puglia, so I'm not sure that the cactus grows ... You can plant roemary and sage, Thime, all these plants that doesn't soffer during the cold winter...Maybe you can put them near the stairs so that, when you come out, you can smell them...

    Thank you for watching and your feedback. We still have a long way to properly plan the garden. We do not have a lot of hope for the seeds because we are not here full time. We were skeptical about the cactus growing until we saw a few others that were fruiting around Roccaspinalveti. 🤞

    Would it be possible to grow a nice lush lawn in the backyard or is the terrain or soil not compatible for that?

  • @cerchiamo

    Thank for watching. In the doing the lawn will be lush green in the spring. It was originally a proper forest out of control. We have some plans for the future in terms of landscaping. We actually had some friends test soil for us. We will be able to plant a wide variety of fruiting trees. Thanks for the tour of the market. We found markets like that in Japan when we were there. They sell everything. and it's shoulder to shoulder and everybody is eating something from vendors. Marvelous fun. And so nice of you to help the wife eat all those pears. quick question though. I'm planning a trip to Abruzzo, landing in Rome, I assume it's easy to rent a car there. how hard is it to get from car retal on to the highway heading for Pascarra, or where ever I find a week rental house in that area? I've never driven In Italy, I don't want to start out it a Rome round about. It appears easy when you do it. haha That yard looks like it could use just a touch of work. I'm not sure what you do for low maintenance there. 0 scaping I guess. What town are you in?

    Thanks for watching. Yeah… we really enjoyed those pears. Street markets are definitely worth the experience. Renting a car at the airport in Rome is simple. We have done it many times. Also, I did go to AAA for an international drivers license. It’s only about $20 and good for a year. I’ve only been asked to show it once at a car rental. We recommend getting the insurance on the rental. We never needed it ,but it is better safe than sorry. It’s simple to drive to Pescara from Rome. Just follow google maps. I’ve never had an issue. I drive in South Florida so getting out of Rome does not really stress me. We have plans down the road for the backyard. After work is done on the house, we are going to do some planting. First we had to clear the jungle. In the spring it’ll lush green. Our place is in Roccaspinalveti. Home to a Big Bench! maps.app.goo.gl/uybQNcfDyScKMpa19?g_st=ic

    Thanks, I plan on doing the license. I was just curious about the drive out of the airport and onto the highway across. I'm in Houston traffic every day but I'm familiar with everything after 50 years. Leaving the airport in Scotland on the wrong side if the road was a bit scary and I wasn't even driving. hummm? is that pronounced Rocco spin al veti? I'll have to look that up. hahaha I'm so looking forward to this trip.

    You’ll be just fine then. There’s one road out of the airport then you take the expressway around Rome. From there, it’s basically a straight ship to Pescara. FYI- the rest stops have some good bites! Have a great trip! It’s pronounced Rocca for short

    We live in Saint Pete! We are in the process of retiring and moving to the Abruzzo region as well! I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoy your videos! Not only are you American, but you’re even in the same state in the US! is there any chance that I can speak with you about housing costs? I’ve been told that lately as soon as sellers hear that there’s an American interested in a house they jack up the price. I’ve also heard that there are no appraisals there so the prices are all over the place. How close are you to retiring? I’m 62 and my boyfriend is 63…. We hope to be there within the next two years. When that happens, I would love to connect with you guys!

    That sounds fantastic. You’re gonna love it there. Our experience was pretty straightforward. We actually negotiated the price lower when we bought our house. It’s a little different as far as the houses are listed over there. They’re not just listed with one real estate agent. So if you make an offer, you don’t know if somebody else is making an offer at the same time.there are so many great values out there. We really recommend going to visit this website.: www.abruzzoruralproperty.com Monia is wonderful and helped with everything and speaks English!

    Hello. Do you need a transponder to drive thru the toll booths? Or rather, is a transponder an option or is it card and cash only?

  • @cerchiamo

    @cerchiamo

    5 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching. We haven’t really looked into getting a transponder because the toll road we have been on offer cash or credit options as well. We have seen a few expressways in the north that use transponders only or toll by license plate.

    Got it thanks. That was one we forgot from our list. They are rare in South Florida. We’ve become used to calling them by their Peruvian name, tuna.
